There are some Middle ages painted figures being offered now on EBay, de by Treasure Island, that may be of interest as they have a lot of workers

Hello Isabelle,
there is a nice book about how the cathetral in Freiburg was build with lots of illustrations of the building inside.
Maybe it can be an inspiration for your diorama.
