I will post an update on mine tomorrow, however my eyes are now a bit cross eyed after working with a 30/0 brush!!!
It was a 10/0 Da Vinchi, but I got a bit over excited with the scalpel!!

I took the figure of Jan Sobieski in Kulmbach and like to show the work in progress. Next will be the horse, and I think it will be a golden bay.

Well, I thought everyone would be doing variations of a brown horse, so I was going to go with a dappled gray, so it would stand out from a black background, but not get lost against a lighter background if that's what was going to be used. It's good to see some color variations.

Hello Nick,

I think piebold horses were very common in the 17.th century.

Look at the orginal paintings of the 30-years-war or the horses of Louis IVX.

Later horses with one color were more popular.

Of course black looks as an evidence, but too evident
A cherry bay with deep brown shadows and yellow to white highlights, black hair light blue highlights would be quite harmonious with the cardinal clothes

I've got Richelieu too!!  I recon they will all face the same way, as all you can see from the back is his cloak and head.     now there's an idea!!
