I'm glad it's working out.
X2 for Wolfgang!
I think Micheal's got something up his sleeve for the next project, but I have no idea what it is...

Back to the current project and a big thanks ;) we nearly have all the figures back!! that's a first  ;D

Beautifully painted all of them and ready to frame which is in the hands of the "boss" Nick
So if you've still got your figure get it painted and posted to Nick or myself and lets make this the best project up to now  ;D

Thanks go out to you all who have taken part and especially Wolfgang who supplied the great figures you've all done such good work on, well done  ;)

Hallo Glen,

I think we must make a 2-member-painting -project; you´ll paint a pinup and I´ll paint a Mignot flat ...
Both figures in an expensive frame of real wood (ebony) and SMD-lightning  ;) ;) ;)

Best regards

Michael

Well, I'm afraid I have no more ideas. Apart from Brian's Dr Who suggestion, you and I are the only ones really talking about this, so most other folks don't seem to have any ideas either. I also don't know how the powers-that-be might feel about someone outside the UK taking the reins.

Still thinking about those thigh-high stiletto boots with holsters...

Hallo Glen,

here my next ideas:

1. At the "Zinnfigurenbörse" they make a casting of the Mignot moulds. We could buy the 2015 series and use them for
a painting project. I think we need 20-25 figures ? Next week I´m in Kulmbach and I can ask.

2. The Gottstein series "30-jähriger Krieg" could be used for a painting project.
There are hourses for the experienced painters and simple figures for the beginners. 25 figures which could be bought at
Kulmbach.

A part could be distributed in Kulmach at the BFFS stand and the rest with post.

But I can´t solve the problem of a sponsor and a logistic center ...

Other ideas ???

Best regards

Michael

Howdy Boys! Any updates on if/when/how we're doing a 2015 Painting Project or had this idea gone to great corral in the sky?

Hallo Glen,

Simple frames in MDF (Middle Density Fiberboard) with glass starts with 1,99 €, when you build the box yourself.
For a case of 160.-€ you can buy a complete army on ebay. I wonder how they financed flat museums like in Kulmbach,
Goslar or Leipzig-Dölitz ??? Several years ago there was no ebay and they must buy their figures from the editors
who wanted to make money. Today they give up because of ebay.

Best regards

Well, Michael, money, or lack of it, is often the root cause of stillborn plans. That's probably why the previous projects have been mounted in simple frames - cheap and widely available.

Dr Who is a good idea, and widely known. But... you have to be careful about reproducing someone else's trademarked and/or copyright items for commercial use/profit.

On the other hand, two words: Pinup Daleks!  :o

Hallo Brian,

I never saw Dr. Who in German TV but time travel could be an interesting theme for flats.
I saw in my youth the story of Catweazle in TV for children.

Hallo Glen,

here the costs:

1. aluminum case for tools; inner dimension: 485 x 340 x 100 mm  (70 mm cover)   60.- €   (19 x 13,4 x 4 Inch)
2. acrylic glass 2 mm                                                                                            20.-€
3. passpartout                                                                                                      15.-€
4. under construction with spruce afford                                                                 10.-€
5. gluten/screws                                                                                                     5.-€
6. architecture paperboard for the small boxes                                                        30.-€
7. 3 m SMD with power supply/cable                                                                       20.-€

         complete case without figures/dioramas                                                        160.-€/120.- GBP/180.-$

To change the dioramas you need a new passpartout and new SMD´s.
It depends on the topic where the figures comes from. When we find a topic before Kulmbach it´s possible to reserve and to buy
them there to save postage. Then we can give them out with a piece of architecture paperboard for the box at the BFFS stand.
The rest must be send by post.
Some painters can paint for a small diorama so everybody paints only a few figures.
The complete diorama´s must return where they get a light and will be sticked on the backside of the passpartout.

The man with the idea must pay for his stupid idea; the collector Forbes died some years ago and I know no sponsor...
I see such a project is too complex. It was only an idea.

Best regards

It seems like a great idea Michael, but there are some cost and logistic issues to work out.

How much does the case cost and who pays for it? Can the case be altered year after year for different sizes and groupings, or must a new case be purchased every year?

Where do the figures come from? It's my understanding that Wolfgang sponsored these projects by providing the figures gratis or at cost for the last two years (there may have been others). It took a year to send the figures out, get them painted, and then returned. I have a feeling some were not finished. Considering that nearly everyone has issues of job, family, home, and consequently limited time for their own projects, asking people to paint more than one figure might be difficult. I can do it, but I'm retired; after household honey-dos and yardwork, my recreation is painting figures and wrenching on the MGs. Oh, and there's baseball... .

All that said, still a good idea if we can get the bodies to take part. I'm in.

Hallo Glen,
I think it´s a good idea to show various subjects maybe with one theme.
To present the flats I saw a good idea from the flat-museum Goslar, an aluminum case with a lot of small dioramas
illuminated with SMD´s (small LED´s).
It´s easy to transport, easy to set up at a show and it´ll be an eyecatcher
Every case has it´s own theme like "famous fairy tales", "famous people and their pets", "pin-ups", "science fiction". etc. etc.

Each painter would build a very small diorama to a theme every year or some painter produce a small diorama for the case.

For example "famous people and their pets":

1. Albert Schweitzer and his cat in Lambarene (Braune)
2. Friedrich II. and his greyhounds (Timm)
3. Richelieu and his cats
4. Karl V. and his Ulmer bulldog
5. Obelix and his Idefix
6. Pharao and his hunting leopard
7. ???

It´s only an idea for some new painting and building projects the next years to present at shows as an eyecatcher.
What´s yor opinion ???

Best regards

Michael

It's never easy Michael. It takes work. Interest - even causal interest - must be nurtured. The interest is then directed to an attempt at painting. The painting is then developed into a skill which is developed even further. No, it's not easy. In fact it's quite hard. But... if there is no desire or willingness to even try because it's too hard, then I/you/we are doomed as far as flats go. Where are the new editors, engravers, and painters coming from if not the young? And where are the mentors who will help them along?

As for the painting project ...instead of a single subject, why not a mix of various subjects? Military and civilian subjects of various eras, sci-fi, fantasy, et al?

Hallo Glen,

my two nephews under 18 are interested in "James Bond" and "Lord of the rings" films but not in flats.
They like to play with PLAYMOBIL-figures (knights and romans), they visit museums but they would never paint a flat.
I think it´s not so easy.
