Hey Nick, is life so expensive in the UK today?  Hotel at Sèvres, was 90 euros a day (negotiated by the organizers), food is quiet cheap in the suburb, car and gas is like any move on week-end for other purpose, or short vacation.  I don't know anymore how much a club, like AMC has to pay pr teble meter for two days, but not that level you mention, I believe.  Perhaps distance and communications makes distant people forced to spend two nights, so three days out.

It becomes now also harder for a 'continental European' to attend British contests, with the more restricted circulation rules. My wife has a Turkish nephew livong in Edimburgh we wish to visit since three years, but the paperwork to travel is small break to jump on a plane and do it.  We hope early 2026! ..

But I have to recognize that I became lazy too in the site, by not painting a lot during the last 18 months, and my box for contests is empty now !! What a shame. 2026 resolutions are there however ! and a internal challenge would be nice to launch, such as the new BFFS flat, or anothre subject to connect us here also, not exclusively on Facebook....

Do have to agree with Nick,  it is a financial risk to any club or individuals, a big risk!!
The legal rules over here almost make it a no go for clubs or origination to put on a event and unlike Europe get no help from local government.

There is interest Michel, but over here the venues charge between £5000-£10,000 a day, as this is what they get for weddings etc. On top of that there is the insurance and the health and safety risk assessments!!!  Over night stays now tend to be £100-£130 per night, and this is the holiday inn / premier inn cheap hotels!!  then food, drink, fuel etc.  it soon adds up and it is now very expensive here to attend😡

perhaps no enough interest for figurines and flats in the UK ?
Are there as many clubs, associations, sites, forums as in France, Germany, Italy or Spain? for such hobby?
How many pieces are presented on average
Are contests open like on the continent, or rewarrding only the top three painters, therefore attractin less participants to the benefit of the best only?

Who knows more about such UK activities?

Enjoyed Bugle Call, this year we were in one of the rooms so out of the draft from the main doors. Peter Young was unable to come due to a car breakdown so I had to put something together myself. Sadly, flats were in short supply on the club stands this year, none that I saw and only four entries in the competition, so I got a bronze and a highly commended.
Nevertheless, had some nice chats and feedback from various people through the day.
