Well, here's my final take. At this point I set it aside for a week or so, then go back and look at it with  - hopefully - a fresh set of eyes.
In the meantime, everyone take a look at it and tell me what I missed or need to fix.

Cheers,

Make them no worry!
Martin Block signatory of the characters has his characters always something left neutral "artistic freedom", so this must be shown in the paint with some color.  8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Yes there are the riders as well as the saddle luggage pieces
(Bags, sacks, Coat role, ax, water bottles or water bags, shovels)
The holsters on the saddle of the rider are hidden partly by luggage.
It would have probably resulted in the production of engraving to complications. ;D ;D
best regards
Wolfgang

Glen, I have the same problem with my figure. In my case it seems to be a roll, same as behind the second rider. (And a peace of a gun, I could see on the other side)

Maybe it is any bag for the riders personal things. If you look at the finished figures from Kulmbach and Böckchen, they have painted it a little different.

Greetings

More progress. I'm painting the horse as a bay - darker browns with near black main, tail, and lower legs. I've looked at a bazillion bay horses on the interweb and there is a wide variety of coloration, shading, and highlighting. Still working on it, but any suggestions would be helpful.

The area under the front rider's hands is a bit nebulous. Saddlery, I assume, but I can't identify anything specific in order to paint it.

Pressing on.
