Congratulations, very good painting, and treatment of lights and shadows.
I do appreciate particularly:
-  the light & darks on the point of the lance, perfectly done to give volume
- the expression of the face with good light & shadows, mustache and the small eyes are sufficient to 'feel' a sharp look of the soldier
-  the hat has nice tones in the white giving the exepected volume too
-  details of each finger on both sides of the right hand..

A little detail = point of the lance should be filed 'sharp' on the front side (good on the back)

Hi Bani!
Very good paintwork!
And I agree to your opinion about how the "white" should be presented.
I myself use a bit very light grey and only the highlights are accentuated with "real" white.
By the way - according to my opinion - the "ready-made" off-white (so the product that is sold under the name "off-white") is usually rather yellowish, so I do not like to use for this purpose.
Also best wishes for the New Year!

Hi all,

A (belated) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Here’s another Ottoman janissary, this time from Kieler. Painting a single figure is much more relaxing, but I have a big pile of unpainted tin to get through!

This time I added a touch of burnt umber to the börk (the janissary hat). The off-white result is, I feel, a bit more pleasing to the eye than the cool white of the previous group. But I think either is possible- if the white wool was bleached, as one would expect for the Ottoman elite, this would eliminate the natural off-white of the wool. So, I’m undecided. Perhaps a variation in my collection is fine as well..

I didn’t feel like painting the eyes on this one. Perhaps I will add them later, but I feel it would alter the ‘personality’.

Best Regards
Bani

Hear what you are saying,  let's try dragging the forum back to life.
Got a new figure or set tell us about it, going to a show or meeting post a few words on how it went, is there a figure your looking for, ask the forum you never know one of us might help.

Got an idea of a new figure or set lets talk about it, who uses acrylic paint tell us how to use the stuff, maybe you want to have a go at oil's there's loads off us to show you how ;)

Don't wait for the "usual suspects" just tap the keyboard and see what happens, it's all down to you!

Hi Michel,
Thank You for this most interesting post. It does look much more positive than I actually feel about members postings and new threads. Overall the „Traffic“ is terribly slow and modest. To me this Forum is much more a most interesting data base but not really a Place to Exchange views on the Hobby etc. For that it is much to quiet around here and indeed boring over times. I do not think this is about to change.
Regards
Wolfgang
