Title: Last 2D Figurines show
Post by: Brian on November 07, 2025, 07:17:15 AM
Way back in April 2D attended it's last show, it was the BMSS show in Reading and always a good day, yes a one day show.
For over 12 years 2D have sold flat figures at shows and on line, not made bucket loads of money but have had a good time and made lots of friends.
Had lots of help from a lot of the editors, society members and collectors and will miss the buzz at the table at shows, pushing the sale of a flat figure or two or just talking about anything, politics, modelling, how to sort out the worlds problems, cars and bikes it was all there at the table and in the bar later, will be missed.
The time has come to wind down, no more figures will be added what we have is it, as you would have seen moulds are for sale and casting will slow down, still have 100's of  Jupiter Miniatura, Glorious Empires and other editors figures to pass on the new owners.
Attic figures and 2D's own figures will still be available from me but that will be all in the future once the stock has gone.
The web shop will run till the beginning of next year then will be closed so if you need anything get it while you can as when gone it's gone.
A big thanks to all that have helped 2D Figurines, I think we made it easier for the guys in the UK to get the flats they wanted and gave a presence for the flat figure at shows in the UK.

Dear Brian,

This is a very sad news !!!

Youhave managed a sister of 'the Little Tin Toy Soldier" in the UK and contributed to spread the passion of the flat tin figures on the British Island these last decades, withe the support also of the BFFS (I presume initially only British), and Western Miniatures, and Mike Taylor and his friends ...

And this with passion, tenacity, friendness, kindness and this even well beyond the United Kingdom through your numerous messages, meetings to shows on the European continent.

I could also notice how repeatively you have re-stimulated our apathy on the forum, many times, foring us the go back to our brushes with shame and re-activate the painting of these characters we let sleeping in our boxes and drawers, requesting to justify our silence ....

Thank you for this, and personnally I have to recognize your are my best friend on the BFFS, the name amail and link I could contact and call at any time during the past 12 years (yes I started from scratch 12 years ago), and always get a reply, an proposal, a solution, and a package sent rapidly ....

Thank you for this friendship which, I hope, will continue mutually!!!
But I understand that as time goes on, age also, we come each of us to a point when we have to slow down, and plan to solve the question "what shall I do with all my grey armies, accumulated' ... if one day I disappear.
I have also many flats unpainted, including from Benedikt, and I you need some to satisfy your demandds, I shall ship them to you as gift....

I looked at your side, once more, to contribute also to your clean-up and there is one set attracting my attention.  It is one I bought 12 years ago when I started with flats (2013), three small flats referring to this famous English litterature:  Sherlock Holmes and the Hond of the Baskervilles.  I had them in my hands, I cleaned them up, planned their colouration, and .... they disappeared in my many boxes, withut hope to recover them.  I would well buy you one set, if you still have one, and paint in, in an autumn falling darkness, between cats and dogs, and a fanal in the hands of Sherlock, lightening the eyes of the forest hound which discovered the assassinated man on the floor !! Let me know ...

Hoping to see you once more on this planet !!!  I have a plan to go to the UK early next year, but it is to visit a nephew of my wife in Edinburgh by air, I we are able to get a visa, since travel reqyieremnts require nowadays more paperwork than when the UK were part of the continent. I can' any longer jump on a train to cross the Channel overnight as I did when working with our subsidiaries in a American, then Japanese company till my 65.

God bless you Brian, hoping to be in touch with you for this wonderful passion for many years still in front of us.

Michel

note: I am not sure who is Sherlock and what the central character is doing with his left arm, and why he is shooting or killing the body ... ???

Yes, thank you for staying with us Brian and trying mightily to spread the word!  You were always a pleasure to purchase from.

On your issue of losing some figures Hannibal it strikes a chord.  I also have many, many unpainted figures.  Recently I spent two days looking for some Medieval Go figures with my only hint being two figures selling fish.  I was sure a purchased them but could not find them through three searches.  On day three they turned up stored among a number of figures from Gottstein.

Several weeks ago I was hunting for Retter's the invention of the Diamler figures.  I could find them no where and finally gave up.  (They were stored in a small plastic sandwich bag.)  Several days later my wife found several figures on the floor - somehow I had dropped the bag and our robot vacuum had scooped them up.  They were all rescued with one decapitation - now repaired.  The perils of collecting with poor organization.....

Mark, if my inventory is correct, I probably have 11,612 flats, but like you, I have some difficulties to locate precisely and rapidly 20% of them.  Like Eric T., time has come to start giving them away to collectors and painters who would have a better use than keeping them in closed boxes in a cave, as my pleasure is ultimately their painting, not collecting them  But my speed would let me finish them during the years 2400's AD!
High time to review my strategy.

I suppose that Sherlock is the guy in the entre, with his gun pointed towards Charles Baskerville ? (perhaps he is the killer too?)... i don't wish to buy one of the books to read the whole story, but read that many movies exist. I known Sherlock since I am a teenager, with his famous coat, hat and pipe !!

Hello Brian,
I am discovering the Attic figures ... Do you have some ? I am particularly impressed by the third one I would love to paint:  the english Georges killing the dragon in front of the young blue lady !!!
Is this still possible along with Sherlock?  It is such a unusual representation of this symbol !!

Hi, does anybody have another paint reference for the China 800 BC set of figures? Has anybody painted this set ?
Any advice or link where I could find one is highly welcome.
Thank You
Wolfgang
