Title: Landsknecht train
Post by: Christoph on October 24, 2020, 02:59:13 AM
Hello,
I started painting a set of figures showing a landsknechts train. Most of the figures are based on drawings from the triumph of emperator Maximilian and were original edited by Mr. Fechner.

For those of you who are interested in the original drawings, have a look here, the train is shown on the last pages.

Here is the first wagon.

This book has quite fantastic pictures, and when seeing how highly decorated the people and the flags were at that time, I wonder how rich people were then, compared to today.

If they would be able to see our present time, ou military armies, ou clothings, they would thing our period in History is really poor and lacks inspiration !!!!

Look at our government rooms, how people are dressed, meetings between countries representatives .... and how they were dressed then !!

Really amazing...

Thanks for the link. I reduced the file---it was very large at 534 MB--and put a PDF copy in the Uniformology category in the Members section.

Nice, meticulous work, Christoph!
I particularly like the rendering of the Burgundian signs and the small Wappen on the top of the cart!
Well done!!

Thank you.

Here are the next figures. Some camp followers on foot. It is interesting to see that these people were dressed very different to the Landsknechts they followed.
These figures are now edited by Schmalkaldener Zinnfigur.

Nice and very rarely shown figures!
However it is said that about 1/5th (or even higher) of the medieval armies was the "service personnel".
Thank you for showing!

Hello,

Sandor is right. The train of an army in the 16th und 17th century was a huge thing. Merchants who supplied the soldiers with all kinds of goods. The soldiers wives and even the childrens of the soldiers followed the army. Servants and so on. When Charles the Bold besieged Neuss in 1474  his camp was discribed as a huge town. At the end of the Thirty Years War the train was sometimes even bigger then the army itself.

Here is the next wagon, carrying a lot of entertainment.

Thank you.
@ Sandor: I have check Mr. Fechners homepage. The last wagon is not marked as sold to Schmalkalden. So I think the mould still belongs to Mr. Fechner. The order number is 158/11, "bespannter Leiterwagen, Burgunderzeit", the wagon of the first picture the same. Order number 188/19, "geschlossener Trosswagen mit Gespann".

Yes!
When are you going to show these beautiful figures arranged in a diorama layout?
I think many of us would be eager to see that display!
And nice work again, Christoph!

Thank you.

@Sandor: no worry. With these figures, together with some other, including the horsemen I´m showing in the other post, I´m going to build a diorama of a imperialist army on the march. But there are a lot figures waiting to be paint. More wagons, banners, men at arms and Landsknechts. So it will take some time until it would be finish, but I´m going to show you the painted figures here.
