As a cyclist and BFFS member I am interested to know if there are any makers who have produced 30mm flats of cyclists.


I have found two images of cyclists on the Society's 'Gallery' page:  The first image shows a group of French soldiers in 'horizon' blue coats and helmets and includes two soldiers riding bicycles.  These figures were part of the 2014 BFFS painting project to remember the outbreak of the First World War. On-line correspondents suggest they might be Mignot or Maier figures.  The second image is also a French soldier on a bicycle, this time dressed in a blue jacket and red trousers.  The title of this image is "Chasseur - Cycliste - Francais 1914-1918.


Does anyone know who might have produced these figures?  Also, are there any other cyclists available as flat-figures?

Hey Peter,

Your first picture are figures from the Bretegnier catalog that Christian Terana produced along with his fine figures.

They are currently not available and apparently the moulds have been returned to the Bretegnier family.

Bicycle race at the Tiergarten (Berlin) 1892).  There are a number of other examples of figures in flats.

There is also an article from our excellent journal that deals with this very subject which is free here:

Click on issue number 62 - page 16.  (There are a small number of other mentions in the Journal which is available to members.)

Not sure of the second figure but, someone here will spot it without an issue.

There are a number of figures on bicycles about, again you should get some feedback here shortly.

P.S. There are more difficult quests.  I once spoke to a stamp dealer who indicated he had run into collectors that collected stamps with chickens on them and another that collected stamps depicting barbed wire...

There still something left.....
There do exist two figures of 60s Bicycle Racers
plus one or two supporting pedestrians.

If your were interested in these too, I could do the research, where the moulds are
and so on  by Kulmbach.

the 60s racing cyclists but it is the styles of bicycles and costumes of an earlier period that interests me.  I have plenty of 'round' figures of 60s racing cyclists which I painted in trade team colours back then.  My cycling heroes were Charly Gaul and Tommy Simpson.

Hello everyone! I wasn't sure if anyone answered the question on the first picture (poilus on bicycles) but they were sold by Golberg I believe. I'm pretty sure I have a set of them buried somewhere.
