Title: Swedish Cavalry
Post by: Roger on February 23, 2013, 01:21:41 PM
Continuing the Swedish theme are these to 30mm Sivhed figs. I'm not overly happy with my painting of them but will put it down to experience and move on.

Not bad at all really, Roger.  Anyway,no worries. Paint a whole squadron and hide the less successful paint jobs on the inside.  ;)

Thank you Steve and good advice.  ;D

Wolfgang, Thank you very much for commenting, offering some advice and taking the time to do a little diagram, once again very useful.
I did use orange as the first highlight on a Burnt Umber basecoat. I feel my problem is that I applied the paint too thick. It might not look too bad on the photo though.

It is just a matter of getting used to these paints and their properties and learning all the time.

Thanks again.

Roger.

Dont be so hard on yourself mate. I would be happy to have these in my collection.
I think Eric would agree, its not tiny detail that makes a figure come to life its the way the paint is applied to give the illusion of a third dimension. I think you are achieving that. Dont worry about thick paint. I sometimes mix the paint on the figure.
Have a look at the Romans Eric purchased of e-bay (posted somewhere on the forum) Close up mmmmmm!
From a distance. Awsome.
Regards
Mike

Eric, Mike, thank you very much for your comments. I learnt quite a lot from painting these two figures so I am pleased about that. The next ones will be better.  ;D
