Post by: errant49 on June 30, 2017, 08:02:13 AM
Hi all The site is really quiet by now Here is a Carthaginian war elephant first issued years ago by a Belgian collector, Gaston lacomblez The mould has been recently cleaned and the figure reissued by a german collector The engraving is not teh best but finally the figures is not so bad; anyway quite a rarity Eric

Congratulations, Eric, for the result as the figure seems to be not very easy for the painting.

Nice painting Eric. It is interesting what people think they can get for a unpainted tin figure. Christoph

What was important to me with this figure was its rarity It is my collector side which took over And as you know what is rare is expensive... :-\ Eric

Very nice Eric.
Don't think I would pay €99 for a flat figure, however rare :(

First I did not pay it that price, just half Second it is not from a set Third this figure is part of the flat history So, as I already said my collector spirit took over It also made me get in touch with a very nice German collector At last, as I painted it well enough , you know what..... I am happy ! Eric

Gaston Lacomblez was a Belgian collector He issued a few elephants designed and engraved by himself and he also made some "cut out" from metal sheet You can see two of his figures in the Douchkine book : the Indian frontal elephant (which should be unpainted in my postal box soon) and the big elephant fighting war chariots The carthaginian and the indian elephants moulds has been cleaned and repaired by a german specialist and belong too a german collector If some of you are interested I can ask him if he agrees I give his mail He also will be in Kulmbach Eric

I would possibly be interested in the Indian elephants if he's using the molds

First go to the figure Rather hard because parts of the engraving are gone and I have to recreate them with paint The picture in the Douchkine book helps Eric

Dear all,
there are even more existing but to my knowledge extremely rare. I attach an overlook. Some (many ?) of these being engraved on one side only.
Orginally it was planned to do these in a collaboration between collectors, Gottstein being part of this group.

That one bull or the figure that is face on. The ears are more like a butterfly ::) I have looked at a lot of live elephants face on and never seen anything like that :o . Now before anybody gets up set I am looking at this in real life :o I like the set and its a nice job. Willie
