Title: Dutch Modelsoldiers Society new flat
Post by: Brian on June 06, 2017, 06:06:08 AM
The Dutch Modelsoldiers Society brings its first 90mm flat  figure. It is a single-engraved figure of Mata Hari.Mata Hari was a Dutch dancer who became famous in France. She was arrested in France for espionage during the first world war and near Paris in 1917.

New flat figure
A photo from the beginning of the 19th century was used, where Mata Hari performs one of her famous dances. On the basis of this picture the German graveuse Regina Sonntag engraved the figure.

Price
The price for members BFFS is € 10, - and for non-members € 13, - excluding shipping costs.

Well, this is after a postcard of the real  Mata Hari.
It is a historic figure not a pin up.
So I am a smart aleck. (Is this correct in english?)
Greetings from a rainy Austria.

Your distinction - is perfectly correct and you are only a gentle smart aleck.  (This sort of fits in both categories actually - pin-up, albeit ancient one as well as historical.   Similar to another flat figure of Marilyn Monroe sitting in a feather boa.  Also both are also similar in that they appear to be nicely engraved and would also both be quite challenging to paint well.)

It is quite original and should be fun to research and paint.

Think I missed something  ???

This figure is off Mata Hari, not a drawing or leering photo but a famous Dutch dancer who was working as a spy and lost her life when court in 1917
The figure shows her in one of her most recognisable photos of the time, how else could you do this figure??

You are not missing anything important.

Basically you could classify the photo/figure of Mata Hari as a pin-up girl albeit, a bit dated.  Alternatively you could classify it as history...that's all.

Regardless very original subject matter of an insignificant but, tragic story from history that for some reason everyone still remembers.

What you have against an authentical figure of Mata Hari?
In her time she was a "Star".

By the way please think of our  female Hollywoodstars and musicstars of the present. No sexappeal?
