Following on from another thread "All Lost" have you a preferred scale.
Is the 30mm figure loosing ground to the bigger figures that are now widely available?
-
Brain. I like the 30s and have a lot to paint. I also like 28mm war games figures :o lookout flat makers they produce some nice ones and in lots of periods. I started out with Britain's my grandmother got me hooked :o I have a lot of 54mm from the old days and well get around to painting them. ::) I say this what scale you are happy with then paint it. ??? I only do 30mm although at some point I would like to try my hand at something bigger
-
@Brian, your voting possibilities are too limited:
My next figure will be either 30 mm or 45 mm,
I like them both.
-
Hm the next figures which I will be engraved will be three 30mm figures and a 50mm .... but painting I will probably a 75 mm figure.
-
This is good to see ;)
-
I am on a 75mm quadriconcept, then will go for a bust, and a 30mm in parallel
Actually I am painting flats since 2013, the ratio 30 mm/larger sizes( incl. busts) is around 3:1, and I believe both are very pleasant to paint and necessary.

Dear all,
well as for the sizes one must take into account there are more than 100.000 different flats of 30mm (incl. 28mm) scale but to my rough estimate only 3 to 5000 flats of other scales, i.e. 20mm and larger than 30mm oday existing.
@willie :

As for these I own some, mostly Perrys (retreat of 1812). But these are - except some Perry and others - to much out of scale (i.e. proportionally disabled :) ). But as these are of same scale of 30mm flats (1/56) there are very nice buildings and carts and very detailed artillery etc. existing. In fact I have edited one coach, a "chaise de poste" to match the napoleonic post set of Thiel.
I attach a photo of it. The flats have been painted by Eric Talmant and the house in the background is from Hudson Allen.

It is good to see the 30mm still has a place with us, we will have to show more in comps and at shows ;)

I have followed the thread about 30 mm figures. I have painted figures for more than 50 years. I have often met collectors with the "right" faith. To say what is right or wrong hurt the hobbies more than it makes good use. To me there is nothing right or wrong. I totally love figures. All kinds of figures. So even though more than 95% of all the figures I paint are 30mm, I'll never stop looking at other figures.

I agree with grimm.
we are so lucky that we can chose from so much figures in different sizes, every one can chose the things of his own interest
and paint them or collect them and have fun with his hobby
I for myself have painted and will paint figures in different sizes, whatever attracted to me.
At the moment I am back to american indians - The killing of Crazy Horse are the last figures I have done

Well, I seem to have missed the bus here. But... I'm generally ok with any scale. I've painted a small number of 30mm for the BFF traveling projects (I suppose they're gone now?), but I found that the level of detail pales in comparison to 3D 30mm gaming minis. I like the 45mm Napoleonic Pin-up girls from Joerg and Brian. They're large enough to have a viable face. Boobs and butts are fine, but the face is everything on a pinup. That and a wave of flowing red hair. Ahem.
In general, however I prefer larger scales - 54mm to 120mm, but probably focusing on the 75mm to 100mm range. My main areas of interest are medieval - Vikings, Saxons, Normans, Crusaders, Saracens, etc., along with some Sci-fi/fantasy and pin-up pieces. The latter two seem few and far between, although Andreas Troste seems to be doing his best to issue these to the unwashed masses.
I also have a few busts. Many of the full figure and busts have proven to be problematic. Nearly all of them have issues with proportion, perspective, and/or inconsistent, misplaced, and misaligned detail. I hate to have to re-engineer a piece before I paint it. Consequently my flat purchases across all sizes have dropped off considerably.

Nobody for the 20 mm figures ? :-\
Richard
-
I'm for anything painted like that - beautiful!
-
Nice painting. I have painted some 20 mm figures. Even some smaller.
Bernt
-
Tell us Richard, did you paint Paris judgement ?
Eric

Well Mr. Biebel did a range of 20mm Napoleonic flats all engraved by L. Frank and exclusively at halt which are very nice. The drawings used were in part identical to his 30mm flats. I.e. for example the French hussars and Prussian dragoons are alike in both scales.
But as far as I know there are not many of these beautiful figures existing (about 50 ?) and they are very hard to find nowadays. You find an example down here. If there are more interested I check my stock for pictures of these.

Hello Mike Hello Bernt. Thanks for your comments ;D Well done, the crib.
Yes Eric, I did. When I am looking at this set, I think I painted better at my beginning than now.
Hello Alexander. Do you really believe it is difficult to find some 20 mm figures ? For the 2015 Kulmbach Fair I found some horse riders for completing my set of Landsknechts. The figures are from Vorberg and were engraved by Soellner. By the way, I had got some figures in 15 mm from the same for the TYW and the drawings are the same the figures of Wuensch.

The 30mm flat is still the preferred flat figure, so why do they not sell?? as I've said at shows the 30mm will go home with me but the newer bigger figures sell well
How can we promote these little guys ? Berliner Zinnfiguren (http://www.intflatfigures.org/index.php?action=links;sa=visit&id=75) is a great place to buy and has a wide range of wonderful figures but (we been here before) it is the cost that puts a lot off.
At shows the figures that sell are the ones the buyer can see, pick up and handle and talk about the figure/s
with the 30mm sets you don't get the same interest, maybe it is the size or the thought of painting 8 plus figures is putting them off I don't know?
Now 20mm now that would be fun to show dioramas on the 2D table, so where do you get these little little guys
-
Congratulations Richard
This Paris set is really well painted and Rubens would have liked the girls !

If you like the 20 mm's Zinnfiguren Bock have some in offer: http://www.zinnfiguren-bock.de/warenkorb.php
The 30mm is a "standard size" because of the mass production in the 19. century.
-
Wilken and Historia Müller has also some 20 mm figures.
-
Once in a while even quite big :D
(Not finished yet)

Hello Eric,
A comment from you has a great value for me.
