Hi all
Here are the first four figures of a set I bought at the last Kulmbach show
The set is an interpretation of fight in Teutoburg forest between the roman genarl Varus and the Cherusk chief Arminius
Costumes are probably not quite accurate but the quality of design and engraving makes them a pleasure to paint
They are 40-45 mm and from Mars, a swedish company of the 1915-1920 years
Engraved by Ludwig Frank they are very hard to find
I also join a picture of the all set I have; I am not sure it is complete but it is already huge enough

Dear Eric,
very nice ! The Mars ethnographical set have a great charme even though being more "toy-like" than usual figures.
I managed to get the Indians and the Vikings since Kulmbach which are great, too.
Best regards
Alexander

These look really nice Eric. I don't think the accuracy of the costumes matters that much on classic sets like this.

Beautiful art Eric, don't really care if these are historically acurate, they are legendary and ooze excitment. the reality would probably be much more boring... :-\

Back from Ransart I had to paint a little
Just finished that

Thanks for sharing the painted figures.
Typical Mars figures, they have their one style.
I m really suprised, what a lot of different types belonging to the series... nice groups.

we've only been back two and a half days!!! hahaha

After a while (nearly two years) I went back to this wonderful set

Interesting figures and very nice paintwork.
Considering the number of the figures (see in you first mail, below) and your expectation of quality, huge work is ahead of you...

These paintings are remarkably good, for their lights, details , shadows, epresions, quality of pinting of the horses, "life"..
Yes, Eric, you are now a serious and definite competitor of Doukchkine, and I start using your paitings re enlarged models for paintings 30 mm flats, as they are so rich of good details expresed in the bible guidelines of Mike, Walter F. Greg DF, and several others (Gianfranco, Stephane, ...)
Congratulations, because you are adding life, ;D where many other are static.
The two 'schools' are equally defendable, but give a different approach and feeling on looking at them.

Very nice painted Eric.
I like to see this old style figures in a modern painting.
