Hello Brian,
"A picture says more than 1000 words ..." (old German adage).
Do you have some pictures ???
Best regards
Michael
-
Pics, yes!
There is one key stat that's missing: Number of Beers Consumed (in pints)). ;)
Glen
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but were the only 30mm figures to gain any recognition in the diorama class?
If I'm right does that mean there weren't any in the other classes or weren't they considered good enough?
-
Thanks Brian, it is very useful.
Also, I see that British are very accurate, unlike continental competitions, to separate the bas reliefs, and flats from each others, which I ignored in my comments made earlier with Elizabeth Ist painting...
It should be considered aswell elsewhere. Perhaps if the number is small, only one medal per catégory ( should be assignedat beginning.
Q: were there painter levels (beginners, masters, confirmed) in this list, or all mixed as one single catégory?
Indeed pictures would help to illustrate. flats are not proficient on other forums reporting. (I use to photograph them all systematically, but I was absent unfortunately...), the problem after is to link the name and author with the picture..., perhaps having a copy of jury's list (with ratings obliterated, linked to the identification on the work).

Your coverage of Kulmbach was excellent. Also other European comps are covered so much better than Euromilitaire. You will be lucky to get the occasional photo in Military Modelling a nd say somebody such as Eric taking photos as he did last year.
Problem is nobody seems to want to cover the competion Euro organisers are more interested in the round figures. So does this mean the BFFS should show interest in their own country especially as they have their own magazine.
Sadly the UK is not up to the standard of our continental colleagues in putting on shows and reporting. We have some very talented painters here but do not promote enough copies of works again nobody seems bothered.
Perhaps the BFFS should look to their role after all one of their objects is to promote the hobby.Attending second rate comps in the UK doesnt fit the bill.
Euromilitaire is our only top class competion and is sadly ignored.Hopefully you will attend next year Michel and show us how to cover properly.

No Roger, there were no 30mm in the singles class :( Bigger size is definitely more popular.
Michel, there is no definition to Master, standard etc. There is a Gold, silver and Bronze level. If you hit these standards, you get the appropriate medal. There is also Highly commended and commended badges. There are no limitations to the amount of medals available, so it is a good way to encourage artists, rather than the 3 medals only form.
It is definitely good to define, Zinnfiguren, Bas Relief and Misc. as separate classes ;)
I think at Euro this year, most of the figures on the tables got some form of award.

Didn't see you there Dave!! :(

I thought that was the case and it was just an observation not a criticism in any way.

Nick
I will be there next year.Unfortunately when you have a major operation it takes time to get back to normal.Hopefully by then things will be better.
Glad you got your golds though this was overdue.

Didn't take it as criticism at all Roger :) but a sign that our eyes are getting older, unfortunately I don't seem to be getting any wiser with it!! ;D ;D ;D ;D There were a few 40mm though ;) and I think Rick's figures were of this scale.
Small can certainly be beautiful :)
I have a few 30mm pieces I want to get done, so hopefully you may find a few more pieces being displayed. ;)
One definitely needs to adjust the painting technique for them, but it doesn't take too long and once adapted, ( with x20 binoculars attached to one's head!!) they are extremely enjoyable to paint. :) :) :)

Will post some photos tonight ;)

Tha nks, Nick and Dave for your comments and explanations.
Yes, If I am there next year, I 'll cover all flats ! I expected BFFS would select one of its member to do so in the UK, ... for the flats at least.
Congratulations Nick for your medails, you deserved eventually after Kulmbach !!
I wish someone from BFFS could adress this classification between flats and "bas reliefs" to Sèvres, perhaps also Ransart and Montroige, to launch this new class in Europe. It would stimulate also more artists to join and further develop them parallel to the rondes-bosses ( figurines). People like Delphine (Ransart), JP Duthilleul , C. Cesario, S. Franzoia, ... can have some influence on a movement they have also initiated themselves in that direction..

The different clarifications is a far better way I think, as it does mean you can compare like with like.
We are very lucky with Euro as the Chief Judge, Geoff Illsley, is very open to sensible suggestions and will implement where it is appropriate and possible.
If Chief Judges of other shows would like our participation, all they need to do is ask, we will always help and advise in any way we can. Delphine doesn't speak much English, and this unfortunately is a bit of a problem. My schoolboy French is some what limited.
Je m'appelle Nicholas, Bonjour et Bon Nuit ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Perhaps if clubs in general approach the organiser's it could start the ball rolling :)
With regards the Photos from Euro, Brian is posting tonight. Unfortunately Chris went away on holiday straight after Euro, and isn't back yet. ;)

I have put some of my photos from Euro 2015 into the gallery - sorry, didn't get round to it sooner.
-
Our cousins in PlanetFigure also have a number of photo collections which are mostly those other figures...but, if one does not object to wading through stunning figures to get to those of Flats this is workable.

Hello Jerry,
thank you for the pictures. It´s easier to imagine the painting of the flat with a photo.
There where big exebitions with flats in the 20´s and 30´s in Germany, good texts in the journals, but only a few photos in black-white left. Sometimes you can see such pictures in "Die Zinnfigur" and you see, they had good ideas
90 years ago, too.
Best regards
Michael

When reviewing all exhibitions, I found by accident that the Memorial Prize Mike Taylor 2015 at Folkestone this year was attributed to a painting .... that was already presented, and photographied ..... at the ... Wold Expo ... 2007 !!! some eight (8) years ago !!
http://www.intflatfigures.org/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=1023 (http://www.intflatfigures.org/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=1023)
Does this make sense? or are there any 'time limit' for presenting a work to a competition? years later.
The frame is the same and title underneath also ??? Unless the picture was added in that gallery only a few weeks ago (pics from Joe Salkowitch)..

Good evening,
All those paintings are just incredible!! I am fascinated and also frustrated when I look at them! can't believe, anyone normal human can paint that great!! :D Whow! greetings, julia

Michel, yes, Rick did indeed paint this and display it at the world expo in 2007.
However, he had a flood at his house, and unfortunately the figure got ruined!!! he has now repainted it and has started showing it again. ;)

Might anyone know the name, scale, and source of the female piece with the flower-print wrap?
