Title: Monochrome Pals
Post by: Brian on September 15, 2015, 07:18:28 AM
Penny Meyer got best of show at Kulmbach with the "Tramp and the Kid" painted Monochrome so why not have a go at this technique  ;)

If your at Euro have a look at the 2D's pals figure only £8 and a good starting figure to have a go , this is one I did earlier  ;D

That turned out well Brian and a good piece to try the technique out on. I'll have to have a look through my stash for something appropriate for me to give it a go.

Brian, you might recall our discussions about the Old West Madam and Her Girls... I thought that might have looked good painted in a monochromatic sepia-tone to look like an old photo. In my flat painting class. I had the attendees use a mono scheme and focus on the light vs shadow instead of obsessing for 20 minutes trying to figure out if they should paint the pants green or blue.

As an old movie buff, I've been doing this for years. Most of my favorite films are in B&W so it just makes sense not to color them. Also a great technique for underpainting - as Penny does so well - and for study of light and shadow without the distraction of color. I have a few in my gallery, but this one got a gold at MFCA a few years ago.

I like the Stanley and Hardy (old BFFS-figures from the 80´s).

I bought them this year on ebay.fr and they are still waiting for a monochrome painting.

A picture was in the last Journal.

Best regards

Michael

Interesting, I have these two fellows:

that I thought were BFFS.  I am now curious about the two fellows I painted...
