Title: The Rocking Horse Fly
Post by: paintela on September 07, 2015, 01:57:42 PM
Hello and good evening,

as announced in the topic about The Tove & The Borogove, here is another flatfigure Mike designed.
It is many years ago that I told Mike I wanted to engrave the Rocking Horse Fly.
He loved the idea and asked if he could draw it for me. Of course I agreed.
Here is my version of the RHF. Behind the painted flat you can see the unpainted backside of another RHF.

A nice afternoon/evening to all of you (http://www.smilies.4-user.de/include/Girls/smilie_girl_201.gif) (http://www.smilies.4-user.de)

I didn't realise you were an engraver Angela.

These are very nice. I must admit I haven't seen these illustrated. Are they Tenniels  original  designs  as well? :)

Hello and thanks to all of you.  :)

Nicholas, yes. The RHF is one of the Looking Glass Insects.
Please check out the Looking Glass Story. There you'll find also both Tove & Borogove.

Good night everybody, Angela

Did you know that there was an additional chapter in 'Through the Looking Glass' where Alice meets a wasp in a wig. Tenniel wouldn't draw it and it was dropped. See http://www.alice-in-wonderland.net/resources/chapters-script/a-wasp-in-a-wig/

Interesting Jerry, that would make a very good figure.
