Title: Swedish Foot Cuirassier Trooper (1638) 30mm
Post by: Hannibal on July 15, 2015, 09:04:41 AM
I acquired six flats already painted with enamal from the serie of the 43 characters of Wimor engraved by Franz Karl Mohr describing the funerals of Gustaf Adolphe , king of Sweden lilled but winner of the battle of Lutzen on 6th of November 1632 during the thirty years war (1618-11632) between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Holy Empire of Germany.  The advantage is to have an old prodution, made with a mould still in good conditions.

I selected one here, the Swedish foot cuirassier trooper IV/2Q.  After acetone cleaning end normal préparation and priming, painting was done with oil = 9.5 hours total time all included.

Thank you Jorg.
Oil painting requires time, as the painting changes with time, and continues to move and melt after days. Therefore it needs to be readjusted several times over days, until tabilized and satisfactory.  I was an acrylic painter, where painting dries in minutes when not less, when diluted for nice glazings, and one can see the results immediately.

It was the hardest challenge I had to face with oïl, and still today, requires patience, time and time.  But did our ancients mastres not the same with portraits done over several months also?   Perhaps not compatible with the crazy life we are exposed to nowadays, where all must be done immedtately;, but readjusting over days is also a self control needed to fine a good way to run your life in the middel of a world that destroyed the satisfation to enjoy it deeply, instead of burning it.

Still a long way to go to master it however.....

You are right. Oil Painting as a way to slow down. But unfortunanatly I am allergic to oil paint. So I have to learn using Acrylics.
