Title: BFFS Journal Summer 2015
Post by: Yesthatphil on June 02, 2015, 07:01:36 AM
Many thanks for the latest copy of the Journal - Summer 2015 - which arrived yesterday ...

A very good read.  I liked the article on the context of the Mohr traveller figures, and was fascinated by the attempt to trace the fate of the Gottstein/RUSI dioramas (Museum battle dioramas being a particular interest of mine) ...

I'm afraid I can't help locate the Field of the Cloth of Gold, but fellow enthusiasts (if they haven't seen it already) might like the following short piece by John Greenwood in which he refers to working with Gottstein on the diorama project ..

Round figures, not flats, Greenwood & Ball figures were the first metal figures I bought way back when.  It is odd how things piece together in the small world of toy soldiers ...

Keep up the good work

Probably needs some cleaning and tidying up but a splendid battle diorama ...

Greenwood and Ball figures were lead mannikins bent and soldered up and small fittings like bases ,coat tails etc soldered up .These preceded the later castings by Greenwood and Ball under later management .I found them in Hamleys toy soldier department right down in basement when I was a kid in the 50's .I couldnt afford any .I later tripped over this Greenwood and Ball Napoleon which is exquisit .The rocks are lumps of lead weights .Its not marked in any way but I just know the paint style as I copied it at one time for commercial  paint jobs for dealers
I tried quite a few years ago to sort of replicate that ethos and made two nights for casting .I then added by soldering base ,swords ,shields etc .I keep meaning to try some more for fun  a sort of 20mm Courtenay knights One of my more insane ventures

While I appreciate the conversation and interesting work - like most of you I too have a backlog of non-flat figures -  let's keep in mind the mission of the site - Flat Figures.

We have one conversation on non-Flat Hobbies and another on Art which have been great but, let's try to leave those conversations and pictures to those Areas and not across the rest of the site please.

-cheers

P.S. No biggie just a friendly reminder.

Thank You Mark,  ;)

General discussion is a good place for these type of threads, plus, when I want to find them again and say something, I will have a better idea where to look  8)

I spend hours trying to find topics, mainly due to my ineptitude to remember!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
