Just to show you all that the committee have not been standing on their laurel's, I can announce today that over the past couple of months we have been in discussions with regards to producing another BFFS figure.
It was also discussed that if we were to produce another one, it would have to be something a lot more interesting than just 'the run of the mill' Military. With this in mind we have approached various illustrators to draw for us some of their best idea's.
I am very pleased to say that one of these was Vladimir Nushdin, and for those newcomer's who are still learning, like me, he is probably the best engraver there is. He is also an excellent artist and has agreed to do a figure for us. This will only be available through the BFFS, and can be purchased by all, but obviously fully paid up members of the society will get it at a nicely discounted rate.
It was agreed that as we are British based, the figure should be something of a British theme, but with a bit of a twist that would add a
uniqueness to it. It will also of a slightly larger scale, approx. 40-45mm and one sided.
The figure we will be doing is loosely based on the legend of Robin Hood, and you certainly can't get anything more British than that!!
So here it is:-

I hope you like it as much as We do. This is the first drawing, and as Vladimir looks at it, he will revise it where necessary.
I will keep you posted as to further updates etc.
Kindest Regards to all, and keep up the good painting. Nicholas

Now that is just spectacular!
At 45mm, these old eyes will be able to cope(with help) and the two middle figures allow some color creativity.
Put me down for two.
Thanks to the committee for all their work...and to Vladimir for his efforts.

"It will also of a slightly larger scale, approx. 40-45mm and one sided"
That is each guy of cause ;) so it will be a big one, around 165mm.

Thank you Kevin, I am sure the committee members are as grateful as I am for your kind comments :)

I think almost everybody knows the Robin Hood story, so it will be a "international" figure.
The idea of Vladimir is great. You´ll have the hole story in one figure for the rare space of your Vitrine.

we have a revised drawing, with friar tuck just that bit taller.
Vladimir is now doing the final drawing before he starts engraving. ;)

A good improvement. Might you also widen the scabbards on the top two figures a bit? These are supposed to be broad swords, but they look closer to a rennaissance rapiers. Remember, the sword is narrower than the scabbard in order to fit inside. I'd also look at altering the position of the second figure's head. As it is, he looks like he's looking up Robin's tunic. And it doesn't help that Robin's tunic can be mistaken for a schoolgirl's pleated skirt at first glance... :o ;D

The figure is from an illustration and is in the style of the Errol Flynn, the Rapier looks much better than a broadsword.
The second figure down should suit you, turn Robin into Maid Marrion with a bit of your sculpting, and Hey Ho, you're away!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I'll put you down for 2 then!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Or... simply turn them all into a Drag Revue of Robin and His Merry Men. ;D

The inspiration for the figure ;)

How do we get our name on the list for one of these figures? Include mine: Steven Lloyd
-
Hi Steve,
Once the figure has been engraved and we have an engraved copy, I will post a photo of it here with all costs etc.
2D will then be the official contact point, as with all the other society figures.
Vladimir has finalised the drawing with me and he will let me know how he is progressing.
I do not expect to wait too long, as once he gets into a project he's off and running! :D

Vladimir now has a slate and is starting to engrave.
I hope he's had a hearty Breakfast and Lunch, as he does not eat whilst in the process of engraving, he feels the finished article is much much better :)
