Dear All,
The committee and I are proud to announce that along with the organiser's at this years EuroMilitaire, there will be an exclusive area on one of the Balconies with regards to the promotion of Flat Figures.
Our Society will be leading this event, and shortly, I will be sending out invites to all our Foreign counterpart societies and groups.
We will have a large Table display area, and we will be asking all Societies to bring figures along to display within their own sections. We will be putting on Demonstrations with a general meet and greet area. If you are attending Euro, please do come along and help us to promote this.
There will be many fine Painters attending, who will be more than happy to pass on their immense Knowledge and tips. So if there is something you have always wanted to know, just ask.
The Organiser's have also given us extra space on the competition tables, so lets make it a good show and get as many figures on there as we can. It is not just about the best painter's getting awards, its about showing the general public that anyone can paint flats, and to show the vast diversity of figures available.
On the Saturday Evening, we will be organising an informal get togeather in one of the Hotel bars, where we can chat, laugh and just veg. out
It has been discussed about trying to arrange an evening meal, but to do this, I would need to know who's interested and how many. I will put a thread on here later where you can add your names if you so wish.
The Organiser's have been very generous in allowing us to do this, so please come along and give it as much support as you can.
I shall keep you updated as things get organised and added. .
Happy painting and kind regards
Nicholas

We are slowly organising this event and today Trevor Morgan has kindly agreed to do a painting demonstration for us.
We will also be issuing a special pin badge for all those paid up members that are attending.
Shortly I shall be inviting Societies and Clubs from overseas to attend if they so wish and display some of their work on our tables on one of the long balconies.
Although I know a fair few e.mails of some of them, if you would like your society/ club to be invited, please let me know by Private message.
I am also looking for top class demonstrators to paint and give advice as needed, so if you are willing to participate, again please let me know.
In the evening we will be arranging an informal get togeather in one of the hotel bars, and subject to interest also an evening meal at a local Chinese eat-as-much-as-you-like Restaurants.
I will keep you informed as these ideas formulate.
Kind Regards Nicholas

Id o not want to hurt anybody but who is Trevor Morgan ? :-[ :-[ :-[
BTW, if it can help, I can show my painting way
Eric

Trevor Morgan, all round good guy, great painter of flat figures, mind you not seen any 30mm from him ::) and one of the judges for flat classes at Euro and other fine shows.
One of his memorable remarks was at last years Euro to Nick " if you keep at it, one day you will get a gold at a figure show!!" ;D ;D ;D
Not the greatest photos but here's some of his work

On this we are getting a lot of response, everyone we have spoken to is asking how they can help with this event. So far we have the East Balcony, 5 to 7 tables to fill, hopefully many of the flat painters from around the world will be with us, demos from some of the great painters and advice to hand on all aspects of flats. We will have an old obsolete series of figures re-introduced to the market and to top it all you'll have the friendly welcome from the members of this society and if you contribute to the display with a figure or two a new pin badge will be yours to have and keep as a reminder of a great weekend.
We're still in the planning so if you have a suggestion or idea to add to the weekend let us know and we'll knock it about and see if it can work, and remember this is your event so lets make it a good one and one to remember ;)
-
Trevor Morgan came on the Scene some 20yrs ago when he was one of the few entering flats at Euro with the likes of Mike Taylor and Jim Woodley. He has done a lot of work for Jacques, some of which you may know.
Another great idea I heard ( thanks Christine) over the weekend was to use White Table cloths onto which we could attach photo's of all Societies and clubs members work on the front. I also like the idea of the specific logo or banner for each society to be displayed in their specific area with figures bought over for display. This is Not a competition between societies, but to show the different techniques and artwork from around the world.
Eric, I would be delighted if you could Demonstrate, thank you for Volunteering ;)
-
Now you should not miss the chance to look over Eric's shoulder when he's painting, it is amazing ;)

The Organisers have kindly informed us that with regards to the competition, all entries have to be on the tables by 2.45 PM on the Saturday afternoon.
For those who wish to enter the competition, but cannot get there till the Sunday, the Organisers have agreed that we can put them in by Proxy, therefore I will be more than willing to accept figures which are sent to me, which I will put into the Competition on your behalf.
The only catch is you must be able to collect them yourselves on the Sunday at 4.30. ;)
the price per entrant is £2.
Anyone interested, please PM me with details.

This is starting to get big now, we have several clubs interested in joining us for the weekend to give a push to the flat figure.
We have a special badge being made for those who contribute to the display table and comp, demos on painting flats by some of the top painters will be running through the weekend as well as advice given and not only all that but 2D Figurines will be there selling all sorts of flats.
If your interested and need more information just ask

A little update on Euro, over the weekend there will be three official demos and the BFFS have been asked to chair one of them.
I have been volunteered to do the deed so Saturday at 10.30 in the demonstration room I will give you the basics of painting a flat in oil's, see you all there hahaha
The competition will be judged by two knowledgeable and experienced flat painters as well as a member from the BFFS just to help and keep an eye on things ;D.
One more thing, next months military mod will have an article on the BFFS and the show well worth a look
-
Another up date!! if you have a look at the latest military modelling we're in it :o half page add no less and a little in the news with great photos of figures too ;)
-
One more thing, 2D will have the Glorious Empires Xmas Special from 2009 on sale, this figure was not catalogued so get it while you can ;)
-
I'm thinking of making a first time visit to Euromilitaire this weekend (last minute changes make it look possible after all) ...
Which is better, Saturday or Sunday? My main interest would be mooching around for old toy soldiers and meeting up with fellow flat figure enthusiasts ...
... And ... tell me about parking ... is there sensible parking at the venue? i.e. can I just drive right up, park safely (and free or modest - maybe which day applies - like most shows) then follow the signs to the ticket desk? Or are there complications?
Anything else I should know?
Phil
-
Hi Phil, Saturday is not taken up with the prize giving but the comp room closes at 3.00 so I say Saturday.
Parking, well I've always been early to help set up but the underground car park is where most go but as I said you got to be early ;)
I have to say also there not a lot of toy soldiers at this show Figures, Tanks and aircraft is the order of the day.
Bring some of you figures and come and say hello.
-
Thanks ... all being well, Saturday it is ;)

Thanks to Brian, Nick and friends for making me welcome on the flats zone at Euro Militaire - and to everyone who contributed exhibits to a display that I enjoyed a lot (and from which I learned a thing or two ;) )

(more exhibits including Eric's splendid elephants)

(mostly from the BFFS display, but the French in the middle are from the painting competition)
Well, a long trek for me down from the East Midlands ... but I now know where it is and what it is like ... I think the group contributory exhibition table was a great idea, and there was nothing but interest and enthusiasm from visitors who browsed in our direction.
I am more a wargamer than a collector, and my collection (built around donations from Society of Ancients founders Tony Bath, Deryck Guyler and Phil Barker) is primarily geared for table top use, bringing ancient military history to life.
But I have come away keen to play a role in publicising the attractions of this unique style of military figure ... for painters, collectors, players and historians alike.
Well done BFFS...
Phil Steele
