When I started my set, bought second-hand from Scholtz, I was inspired by Eric's figures. Salome and the slave were painted first, as I already had done an African Page Boy in bluish black I now went for a more chocolate hue. The Jewish priest and high-priest was painted according to research on the net, also got Chris McNab's Osprey book on the Roman Army from the City library.  Herod Antipas painted according to an illustration from Braun & Schneider's The History of the Costume.
