Hello friends of flats,

here is the first prototype of the mini-diorama after an idea of Mignot.

I replaced the cheap looking plastic to 4 mm acrylic; interior dimensions 11 x 11 x 6 cm.
The cartoon-box was replaced by 4 mm poplar plywood which is offered in craft stores for
fredwork.

Now we have:

- natural light from 4 sides
- the wooden box can be replaced every time
- you only need a few one sided painted flats for a diorama
- bigger flats in 54,70,etc.mm are possible
- free composition of the base plate and rear wall (somebody who can paint on cnvas can paint
  a perfect rear wall, too.)

It´s only an idea and there are a lot of ways to a perfect diorama.
It´s only a prototype and there are a lot of ideas to optimize the design. For example I don´t like the screws;
UV-Glue shout be a better idea.

Best regards

Michael

@Michael,

thanks for inspiration.
In any case something to keep in mind.

Hello friends of flats,

here some ideas additional to the good article of Ed in Journal 118.

I agree with Ed. It´s a bad idea of illuminate flats in a diorama from the backside.

Some days ago I got a little Mignot-box (look at pictures). There is an illumination of natural light
from the sides, the front and above. The quality of the plastic looks cheap but the idea is good.

Yesterday I ordered an 4 mm acrylic glass cover 11x11x6 cm (the Mignot box has 11x11x5 cm).
The pieces of cartoon I´ll transfer into birch plywood. So it´ll be more solid.
I´ll create a small diorama for a test.

I think it´s a good alternative to the frames to present a few well painted or rare flats.

Maybe an idea for a Mini-Diorama Competition 201X ???

Best regards

Michael
