Probably not historicaly accurate but very interesting to paint

Very nicely painted :) , but as you say, Eric, historically not very accurate.
In fact the Carthaginian war elephant was a now extinct subspecies, taxonomic status of which is under debate. It was only some 2 meters above the withers. Hence there was no place for a turret, so except for the mahout who was guiding the animal, only one or two warriors could also sit astride on the Elephant like when you ride on a horse.
Thus all tin figures of Carthaginian war elephants are incorrectly design when they have a turret. Also the size is incorrect.

There is a African elephant that size. They call them Forest Elephants ??? they are found in the Congo very rare :o Africans Bulls are hard to work but they can be worked. 8) Willie
