Today some more banners. The first one is from the Freiburger Fahnenbuch,  the second can be found in the Berner Schilling Chronik  and the last one is painted after a surviving original which is now at the Landesmuseum at Zürich.

Yes, I agree. It looks like the soft skull-cap a man of the church might wear on occasion.  See the attached image of Pope Innocent X by Velazquez c.1650.

To me it looks like a basket. I did not see a similar internet image with him in the same dress as the flat!
