Hi Friends, good morning!
I am just about to start painting the Richelieu figure of Gottstein, when I came up against the problem:
What does the figure hold in his left hand (see the arrow on the pic)?
Is there any idea?
Cheers - Sandor

Hi Sandor,
I just searched on google for images of Cardinal Richelieu & in many of the paintings he is holding his Biretta hat in his hand. Hope this helps !

Malcolm

I looked too, but the 'beretta" is squared and has not such a fixation line as it would be for an helmet, but he would have an armour.
If I had to paint, i would just erase it and only keep his left hand hanging !!
Not such a hard work, and no single canvas painting is representing him exactly the pose that he has on this engraving . I even looked at the paintings of Cardinal Mazarin ...

To me it looks like a basket. I did not see a similar internet image with him in the same dress as the flat!

I agree with socko47 its a basket . Willie

Recent picture of the same flat see on ebay (account by Eric Talmant)....seems to be a cardinal hat...

Yes, I agree. It looks like the soft skull-cap a man of the church might wear on occasion. See the attached image of Pope Innocent X by Velazquez c.1650.

Hopefully, I've managed to attach the image this time!

I think you may be right :o Willie That's what I like about this club always ready to help with things if you have a question.

Thank you Gents for the help!
I shall be back with the picture of the ready-made figure.
Have a nice day!!! ;)
