Thanks Eric.
You are right about the shadow of the shield, it should have covered more of the soldier. I did increase it but not enough. I will bear in mind your other points, but you will forgive me for leaving this figure, I have so many more to paint.
My only answer is to turn it round and look at the other side!

The picture modify the colours but a few remarks
The shadows on the inside of the shield should cover all the inside; maybe just a very thin line of light on the lower part; it should also climbs on the knee and the leg
The nude part of the arm is too clear; it should be nearly unvisible
The light on the sleeve is not at the right place; it should be on the middle
You should try to highlight the shield a little more
Remember that in shadows (or in full light), the differences between colours tend to disappear
I am not sure to be clear enough but I hope to be helpful

Thanks chaps. Now I look, I should make the shadow from the shield deeper and extend it to cover the left arm. Won't take long.

looking jolly good.

I could swap for a flower fairy, but I don't think the Romans were at war with Giant fairies!!

The finished Roman.
You are right Nick, he needs an enemy to accompany him. Anybody got one to swap?

Very nicely done Charles, its such a success, I think you should stick to 40 mm from now on!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D   your twins done quite well, perhaps we should get him to do a figure painting lesson in the Workbench area!!  ;)   ;D ;D ;D ;D

I must admit when I see nicely done 30mm figures I do admire them, obviously a very well designed and engraved figure makes all the difference, but after drawing figures and downsizing them to
40mm and 30mm,  the 40mm does give that little bit better definition to paint, especially when it comes to coat of arms and armour.

now you need to do a nice 40 mm Ancient Briton to go with him, then a Gaul, Frank, Greek, etc.etc. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Bernt
Now I think I should have bought a few more of them, but at the time it was just an experiment to paint a larger figure. I don't think I will get all 88 though, but perhaps an opponent for my Roman.
That auction site is a new  one to me, I will take a look from time to time.

Nice to see your Mars Figure Charles. A complete set of Romans and Germans consists of 88 figures. I do not have a complete set of them. I have just painted a few of them. Some  Mars Figures  sometimes appear on the Swedish auction site Tradera.

No way Brian, that was a one-off. Back to 30 mm for me.
