Have a look at Steve Cady's blog, http://castlesoftin.blogspot.co.uk/ he paints with acrylics and is very good, he is also a member here although I've not seen him online for awhile.

Hello Simon. I would follow Brian's advice and continue as you have been on round figures but go that bit extra with light and shade to create depth and more of a 3D effect.
Also if you have a camera I would encourage you to post plenty of in progress photo's here as you will get plenty of useful advice to help you along your way.

Your SYW wargaming project sounds very interesting, looking forward to hearing more about it.

It would be a tremendous help if members who use acrylics could give me advice on their use.  I will hold my hands up straight away and say that I intend to use 30mm flats for Seven Years War war gaming.  I have painted in acrylics on round figures for many years, but the thought of painting flats in acrylics is slightly daunting.

All advice and any tips would be tremendous.
