Kovar - Sleighride of Maria Theresa

Another vendor - Kovar - and time period - 1740 - 1770s - which I have a fondness for.  I would not have given this item much thought on Ebay if I had not seen David Chiarabella's example on Bistulfi's site.  His rendition is charming, though he has used two different horsemen from Kovar's line which I think is a good call as these outriders are somewhat wooden.

Kovar's catalog:

Here is David's example:

And as a nice extra Bistulfi also supplies a nice write-up of David's technique as well:
"Davide comes from a consolidated experience of painting ronde-bosse model soldiers . Like other painters, he has recently begun to get fascinated with the world of flat tin figures in the traditional 30 mm scale. His usual technique is to apply a white primer and then a light layer of acrylic color, much lighter than the final color, this in order to have no difficulty with the light areas. After that, he starts to paint in oil. He tries to place lights and shadows to get an initial idea and then works on it again, until he has satisfactory results."
