General Discussion / Re: Austerlitz Trophies
« Last post by Ed Humphreys on April 23, 2025, 03:46:29 PM »
Yes, the figure of Prince Andrei is based on "War and Peace", which does not actually describe him tugging at a standard being taken by a French grenadier. "Voila une belle mort" This should not be included in the scene, whether or not it actually happened. I am still trying to find the actual truth behind it. I must say that Bondarchuk's film is one of my absolute favourites..
Thanks for your suggestion.

Gallery / Leipzig lion hunt
« Last post by Erich on April 23, 2025, 02:02:12 PM »
In October 1913 in the City of Leipzig 8 Lions escaped from a horse - drawn Circus - Wagon. 6 Lions shot by police, 2 were recaptured.  You can read more about this incident on wikipedia, there are a few pics too
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leipziger_L%C3%B6wenjagd
The "Zinnfigurenfreunde Leipzig" have edited an Annual figure for this incident years ago. A "Annual figure" will only be given to the Members of the society, which are members in the year of the edition. I have tried for a few years to get a cast, and luckily last Kulmbach I could get one with the friendly help from a collector friend, who has seen them offered on a table in the big tent....

Ed:

The Segom series (no. 50) is based upon a scene from Tolstoy's "War and Peace," wherein Napoleon discovers the fictional Russian Prince Andrei Bolkonsky on the Austerlitz battlefield.

The SIMA series, which has General Rapp, was edited in 1938 by Paul Armont/Fernand Gravey, and it is based upon a painting done in 1810 by Francois Gerard which is currently in the collection of the Versailles Palace. (I attach a copy.)

Unfortunately, I cannot say whether Rapp's depiction in Gerard's painting is accurate.

Thank you so much, Peter and Sandor. That's incredibly helpful. I don't live near Tilbury, but if I'm down that way, I will certainly go and look.
Best wishes

Dear Linda,
If you live near Tilbury in Essex you may like to know that there was a diorama, in the local library, of Queen Elizabeth I reviewing the fleet in 1588 (which included many more of these figures).  However, I do not know if the diorama is still on display there.

Hi Linda,
if I were you I would try to sell the figures on eBay.de, that is one of the largest market of flat figures.
For the time being there is no auction for that set (see: https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_nkw=zinnfiguren+Tilbury&_sacat=261072&_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_svsrch=1&_odkw=zinnfiguren+Elizabet&_osacat=261072&_sop=10 )

About the price - considering the
 • rarity of the figures
 • the fact that it is not the full set
 • the mediocre paint quality
I would start the auction on the Euro 5 for the foots and 10 for the group of the mounted Queen, i.e. 9 x 5 + 10 = 55, and I would run the auction for 10 days to give enough time for the enquirers/bidders.
Good luck!
Sandor

Hi Linda!

Anyone is welcome to post here and is looks like part of Elizabeth at Tilbury which is fairly rare.  Here is the original catalog:

https://intflatfigures.org/BFFS/History/Krog/index.html

Price wise I am not sure, as recall I was advised something like $1 per foot figure and $2 per mounted is a good rule of thumb.  This is a rare set which may increase the value that but, as a partial set it will not help.  Sorry for the mushy response, others may be more helpful.

Hello All. As a first -time poster, I hope that what I'm posting is allowed. I have been helping a friend to sort and sell her late partner's possessions. Among them was this set of flat figures. I think, from what we have been able to see online, they may be at least part of the set of Elizabeth 1 at Tilbury. I would be very grateful if members could advise as to whether this is the case and if so, what might be the  best way of selling them?
Many thanks for your time
Linda
