I'm afraid none of us four (Brian, Nick, Chris and I) is "Chippendale" ;D ;D ;D ;D
So the result seems really uncertain to me.....

The Social side

O.K. we mentioned the displays last time, and we’ve told you about the Paintathon too, but what about night time if you’re staying over for the weekend.

Want to talk to the guys who run FigureWorld ?

Or just want to chat with other figure modellers there to attend the show ?

During the day of the show and the Paintathon, the refreshments room will be open next to the Great Hall in Oundle School.

In the evening there’s one of two pubs to be in - both in Oundle, and both close together. One is The Ship Inn, and the other is The Talbot. Both serve good food and even better beer, and after 8pm, you’ll probably find one or two modellers ( O.K. probably more than one or two modellers actually ) in either one of those establishments….or both, on the Friday and Saturday nights – 20th and 21st July respectively.

The show is still being held on Saturday the 20th of July 2013 at Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.

Opening times for the Saturday will be 9:30am until 16:30pm.
And don’t forget the Paintathon on the Sunday: - 9:30am until 14:30pm

So there you go, “Reason Number Five” for returning to FigureWorld in 2013 – Beer and food – can’t paint with ‘em, but can’t live without ‘em.

FigureWorld 2013

 The knowledge

It’s what we all want, but it can’t be bought.

Simply put, there were approximately 250 people at FigureWorld last year, one or two with fifty years or more in the hobby, some with as little as one or two years or less.

If you average it out at 10 years of modelling experience per person though, that’s two and a half thousand years of knowledge ( and some did agree with the comment I’d made about getting that amount from Rob Lane alone ).

Somewhere in there, there’s got to be that little fact, that small piece of something that you can’t quite figure out, that could be solved for you simply by talking to someone.

Because that’s what FigureWorld is all about – getting modellers together, discussing projects and model related problems, and hopefully using that vast store of knowledge to help each other get the finish we hope for on the latest model.

It’s all very well seeing photographs on the ‘net” or via e-mail, but actually holding a piece and being able to turn it around and see properly the effects that have been rendered, or alternatively be able to describe a problem to someone verbally rather than long-winded text based conversations; well, you just can’t beat being with other modellers in real time in the flesh.

Better still, on the Sunday, there’s the Paintathon where people can actually show you how things are done, or you can show them exactly how you produce what you’ve done.

So there you go, “Reason Number Seven” for returning to FigureWorld in 2013 - because two hundred and fifty ( or more ) minds are better than one.

The show is being held on Saturday the 20th of July 2013 at Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.

Opening times for the Saturday will be 9:30am until 16:30pm.
And don’t forget the Paintathon on the Sunday: - 9:30am until 14:30pm

The Displays

Let’s face it, these are the stars of the show, the whole reason FigureWorld began !

In fact, we think it’s why FigureWorld continues to attract new friends every year.

No competition, no pressure, no judging gaffes; just lots of space to display your models and be able to discuss them and other people’s work with……well…. Other people.

The Basement’s whole idea behind FigureWorld is to get modellers together and talking. To see what each of us does, to talk about why we do it and how we do it, and perhaps to give each other ideas about new projects or types of figure we’d like to tackle in the future.

Struggling with that latest project ?

Can’t quite get the effect you want ?

Just plain difficult to find the motivation to paint ?

All good reasons to chat to people who do what you do – they’ve probably been there before and very probably have a good solution for it.

Obviously we’re contacting the same clubs and forums as last year to support the display area:-

The White Rose Society.
 The British Model Soldier Society
 The British Flat Figure Society.
 Darlington Model Club
 Platoon Brittanica
 Jolly Bodgers
 SouthWest Figure Modellers

But what about those folk from The Basement – now the forum’s closed its doors. Well, that’s no problem, simply because there’s still the same amount of space, and if you’re not a member of one of the above clubs or forums, then you’re welcome to join the main “open” display space – which is part of where the guys running the show will be displaying their models..

So, just like last year, you’re still invited to come along and put on a display of figures, because that’s what Figureworld’s all about.

If you’re a club that’s not been mentioned above, but would like to have space allocated for a figure display, then please contact Robert Lane at elanlane13@btinternet.com

The show is still being held on Saturday the 20th July 2013 at Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.

And don’t forget the Paintathon on the Sunday: - 9:30am until 14:30pm

So there you go, “Reason Number Four” for returning to FigureWorld in 2013 – Not only are you worth it, your models are too !

FigureWorld 2013

 The Trade Stands.

You came, you saw, you did a little shopping.

Yes, there is a global recession happening, and everyone’s tightening their belts.

However, with FigureWorld being pretty centrally located, it’s fairly easy to get to, and hopefully there’s not many folk having to travel five and six hours to get there.

With that in mind, we’ve invited the very best purveyors of resin, white metal and all those bits that you just can’t do without, and put them into two rooms so you can select exactly what you need for your next project.

Let’s face it, buying on the Internet is all well and good, but being able to look at the model you’re thinking of buying before parting with the hard earned cash is so much better – not to mention being able to take it home with you rather than waiting for the post.

It’s a few months away still, but that’s just another way of saying “there’s plenty of time to save up !”

So, Reason Number Three for getting to FigureWorld 2013 – more things to buy than you can shake a stick at, and possibly a few things to make a new stick out of when you’ve worn out the old one.

The show is still being held on Saturday the 20th July 2013 at Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.

Opening times for the Saturday will be 9:30am until 16:30pm.

FigureWorld 2013

The Paintathon.

Yes, we're doing this again on the Sunday, and hopefully you'll be able to join us at the FigureWorld venue with some paints, putty or just for a chat.

There isn't any entrance fee for the Paintathon, the idea being to offer the space for people to come along and paint or sculpt in a group, rather than as individuals at home.

Last year a lot of ideas seemed to get passed around, and different techniques were seen in use - far easier to actually see something done, than trying to explain it to someone in a "Step by Step article.

As we said last time, if you're travelling down to Oundle, why not make a weekend of it and come along to the Paintathon on the Sunday.

"Reason Number Two" for coming to FigureWorld in 2013 - Look at some models, buy some models, and even get chance to get started on something before leaving for home.
