Bob Bard was a famous collector of Model Soldiers in the USA, and if I remember correctlywrote at least one book on the subject.
No doubt he was a dealer as well.

Thank you for your assistance guys, I figured it would be right after the end of WWII, but the separation dragged on for so many years. The world changes so much, wonder how many kids even know that Germany was seperated for so many years... There is a good attention to detail on these factory painted sets as all figures are marked with the individual casting number on the bottom of each figure. Made in the Western Zone of Germany" is stamped on the inside of the box cover and apparently there was a distributor named Bob Bard in Baltimore Maryland who did some selling in the states. Definitely starts me thinking about how nice it would be to have a full range of Kieler sets in original boxes, all number and cataloged..... ::)

Hello Ray
Yes I have four box's with the same marking that I bought in Hamleys store for one shilling & eleven pence, they had hundreds of box's covering all periods.
I don't think that they were popular as they did not stay on sale long.
It must have been late 50's early 60's trying to remember how old I was then, but it escapes me, I was still at school and it was a Saturday treat going shopping with my Father could have even been getting a present for my Birthday.
There was a special reason that they were marked made in West Germany may have been something to do with trade embargo or special prices as the English were trying to kick start the German economy after the war, I believe that one of the Bantock's were placed with Ochel as liaison officer and he may have been involved in bringing the figures to the UK.
If you have the Krannich books on Ochel there is a photo and reference to Bantock
Sorry can't bee more precise

Ray I would say 1946 - 1956   I remember getting toys when I was a kid with that mark . So you have a collectors item there.  Willie

Recently purchased a group of factory painted Kieler Zinnfiguren sets and many of the boxes were stamped "Made in the Western Zone of Germany".
Does anyone know the range of dates when they stamped this on the packaging? 40's, 50's 60's?
Ray
