zinnmartina:

It is very interesting to so the different styles of painting and to learn about the ways other paint their figures.
Do not worry Eric, I´m not changing my own style, I just do some experiments, like the colour of the armour and so one. But it would be a bit boring to do it the same way year for year. For myself I´m like to look around and see where I can develope my own painting but I would not change it completely.

Hannibal:
Thank you for your useful comments, Christoph,
I got some acrylics to go to coloured undercoating, with some grisaille to build the lights and shadows before attacking the oil painting and finishing.
I will try this black undercoating with a next 30mm flat to make use of this lining effect, which I find fantastic for small size to bring a distinct reading of the details ... And perhaps do the same figure with a traditional white undercoating to compare, then a coloured grisaille ...
An interesting experiment ! but without mastering the techniques yet, so as preliminary attempt!
It is useful to try various techniques, to change, discover, improve and share the experience with others !!
Main purpose of the forum, I am convinced.

Hallo Christian
I already told I like your way
I will add just one thing : do not change anything and do not try to mix different ways
Your's is original and very effective
Just keep it !
Eric
Christoph:
Hello Hannibal,
thanks for your help. Yes I should paint the legs of the horse different (more ligth to those in front). I don´t use thrown shadows till now but I will test it.
Normally I use a black undercoat an then starting with the colour from dark to light in some cases some nearly with colours at the end to give a greater effect.
When I´m painting the black horse tail I just paint with a very thin White colour directly on the undercoat. Also the lining ist part of the undercoat.
(I use Acryl colours).
It is quite interesting, I never thought of comics when I was painting flats but it was mentined to me from different people.
When I started painting I thinking about a style which can be used in dioramas with many figures where Details can be seen easy.
Christoph
