In Germany you can visit all cathedrals without money. They are no museums.
The "Kulmbacher Zinnfigurenbörse" is free, too. You Need only money for the  few figures you buy...

I must admit, I would have expected to pay a donation, but also charging this amount for a Crypt that's closed is rather taking the biscuit!!!

Was it the shock of you going into a Cathedral or the money that stopped you. Remember that RAF museum we were going to go in. haha

I would certainly be moaning about that.
A cathedral is not a place of entertainment but a place of worship that belongs to everyone, fair enough ask for donation but an entry fee?

I know what you are saying. At least some of the military museum around here in VA don't charge that much. Also I like staying home and painting flats. As I get older the more I like being at home. Willie

Much the same the world over me thinks.  Here in the US we have separate fees for parking and getting into an event which makes the price climb quickly.

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy the other day with my daughter and her husband and noticed the price of tickets was the same as it was for refreshments - a cool $50 for 2 hours of entertainment - though fantastic movie by the way.

Painting flats does still appear to be the best entertainment buy overall.  I now have some sets going back several years still to be finished.  What does that break down on a hours of enjoyment basis?

Today we visited Canterbury down here in Kent, thought we should have a look around the Cathedral but to my surprise £10.50 each from us just look around, that's £31.50 for the three of us and then the signs said that the crypt and adjoining areas are closed!!! we did not go in :-[
