This is a great question to ask. Here we go...

1.)  How many flats do you have painted and unpainted?

Painted very few - probably only a few hundred. Unpainted I suspect something around 2-3000 but I’ve never tried to count them.

    - Are these concentrated in any specific time period?

Not really, but most are probably medieval / early 17th century.

2.)  How many years have you collected flats?

About 16 years on and off

3.)  First set.

I believe it was a set of kilia Austrian Infantry Of The 7 years war

4.)  Favorite set

Well I’m not sure.

I love Mullers tannenberg series engraved by Frank. Also love the funeral of gustavus  adolphus. And of course the army of the blue king. And you can’t leave out the battle of murten. I guess it’s hopeless. I have many.

Ok even though I can give no  precise answers :

1.)  How many flats do you have painted and unpainted?

Painted : Very roughly estimated between 7.000 and 10.000 (incl. those who are painted, but just waiting to be washed off again one day)

Unpainted : I really have no idea but probably about 10.000 +

Are these concentrated in any specific time period?

Yes 98% are from Napoleonic era

2.)  How many years have you collected flats?

42 years

3.)  First set

Scots grey at halt from Kilia

4.)  Favorite set

The Russian retreat 1812 from Berliner Zinnfiguren

To fess up as it were here are my own calculations in this department -

1.)  How many flats do you have painted and unpainted?

I am guessing something in the neighborhood of 3,500 unpainted with another 700 painted.  (Pretty pathetic I know.)

     - Are these concentrated in any specific time period?

Mine are spread over Ancient/Mediaval/Enlightenment and Napoleonic with a sprinkling of other periods.  Most of my collection are 30 mm however.

2.)  How many years have you collected flats?

In my case only about 10 years seriously with an occasional dabble before that.

3.)  First set

My first try were a set of French flags from Segom followed by two lovely Gottstein elephants engraved by Frank.

4.)  Favorite set

As related elsewhere my 'white whale' was Western Miniatures Alice in Wonderland designed by Mike Taylor.  Still my all time favorite.

Here is a simple query to our community on a rainy wintery day - at least here...

I was going through my piles of unpainted flats this weekend to decide where inspiration would take me and decided I certainly have enough to paint through this lifetime which leads to an interesting set of questions for the quiet holidays:

1.)  How many flats do you have painted and unpainted?

       - Are these concentrated in any specific time period?

2.)  How many years have you collected flats?

3.)  First set

4.)  Favorite set

I am curious who is the King in this department, though I have two uneducated guesses for both categories.

mark  8)

P.S. I have heard one confession of figures in the 100,000 range which puts me to shame...
