yes, indeed, perhaps you can add white spots on the skin of the black persons and grey shadows on their clothing, and also very white spots on the top left sides of the hats and clothes, see below

Yes, Michel you are perfectly right: these white spots render the figures with dark skin-color much better/much more vivid outlooks.
I myself shall also note this technique for later!

2 new pics - with more light and shadow - I have some more Mahdists to paint and will try to give them more contrast from the beginning
