Post by: aba on February 12, 2020, 01:37:50 PM
Dear all,

on a Russian Facebook group there were some photos posted taken by Mark Igglesden of the (to my knowledge) there Gottstein Dioramas at Glenbow Museum Calgary on exhibit.

As these may be of interest I post these pictures here

It is almost incredible that these sceneries are made of flat figures.
They rather look like paintings!
Thank you Alexander for sharing the photos!

It was good to see those images of the Gottstein Dioramas that once resided at the Royal United Services Institute Museum in Whitehall, London.  Six of the images show the Old Guard at Waterloo; another is the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava and one is of the Battle of Crecy showing the moment when the Genoese crossbowmen on the French side are retreating under the shower of arrows from the English & Welsh archers.

I have letter from the RUSI dated 26th January 1981 which shows that five of the fifteen of the dioramas
went to the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Canada
after the RUSI closed in 1963: Thank you Alexander for posting the images.

Yes and there are photos listing of the Blenheim Battle and the Romans which are not on display. These photos have been on this site some years ago but as they are gone I attach them here again.
