Thank you and yes I have the Hourtoulle publication more as a reference and a holder as I have been trying for years to put together the complete collection of the individual hand colored prints, I've nearly ruined the binding by filling the pages with the corresponding prints!

I think it is not Richard but Godefroid de Bouillon 1st King of Jerusalem. His bronze statue is on a square in Brussels. He was born in Belgium.

Nothing gets by you Philippe. especially if it has to do with Belgium! do you have this figure done as Bouillon?
It's ironic that Bouillon's name comes up for me as I have just finished a fictional book which involves Bouillon and the conquest of Jerusalem.

You are  right Eric, but on the basement we can read Gottfried v. Bouillon. So perhaps originally it was Godefroid de Bouillon but painted as Richard ....

Here are some more, I don't know if this is the whole set. Here we have (auf Deutsch) :
Gottfried v Bouillon
Richard Loewenherz (with three lions on his shield!!)
Bohemund v Tarent
Tankred v Apulien
Raimund v Toulouse

Editor is EH, engraver HL
I don't know who EH is, HL presumably Lecke

Artistic license, whatever, I enjoy your artistic interpretation of this figure, the ability to paint the flat with ones own style, flair and artistry is one of the finer points of this medium in my humble opinion.

The crusades and the principal characters of the struggle make for great subject matter, guess I'll put that one on my long list of subjects.... ::)

For those who are interested in, the best set about crusades is available from Menz, engraved by Frank
There are some figures painted somewhere in the site

Yes, there is tag for menz and one for crusades which will both show the pictures in questions.  They are in the tag cloud at the bottom of the gallery page or you can search based on the term menz from the gallery page.

Both will show you the figures in question.  I have the Menz of crusaders attacking a castle which is amazing - Crusaders hoisting storming ladders and defenders throwing stones on them and doing a variety of defender things.  Have a nice diorama designed to show them off.

Henniges was quite a large publisher of figures. I have his catalog from the 70s which contains 44 pages with illustrated figures. The moulds wehr  sold in the 80's to many other publishers. I think all his figure is still being sold.

Just out of interest, were there many more in the Crusader set?

Yes there are some crusaders. I think most of them are at Menz and Wilken.
At Wilken, they are still marked  EH on the footstands. Golberg engraved new footstands. Henniges was born in 1911 and died 2/21 1983. I know of nine different engravers for his figures. After his death, his  moulds were sold to 11 different producers.

Just recieved these fresh troops from Fernando Ent. Sri Lanka, seem to always have issues on the business side but the quality of the work is really great.
This is The American Civil War, Gen. Bufords !st Cavalry, day1 Gettysberg.

Thank you Roger, the Austrians were done by Fernando ent. in Sri Lanka and the detail on the flag was so fine it wasn't until I took the picture and blew it up that I could see the fine detail such as the unit numbers in the upper corners of the flag.

Hello Mark and thank you, When I originally purchased this set it was from a gentleman who said they were painted by a women in Moscow, I initially thought they were Hussars on receiving them the color was so different and there seemed no set unit pattern that I suspected that they also might be irregulars or cossacks, maybe the forum could help?

Hello Eric,
Coming from someone with a world class collection, I appreciate it!
Yes I am Following the Bretenstein sale, to someone who is reletively new to flats it has been a wonderous near class room education as to what is out there and possible! not a week goes by when I am not OHHing and AHHing about some set posted, the collection must have been a wonderous thing to see in it's totality, I'm wondering how much was displayed?
I have bid several times but for the most part there is someone who wants these more.   :'(
Sincerly,
Ray

Yes Ray, the Bretenstein collection was one of the largest; 450000 figures it is said !!!
I bid on a few Douchkine at the beginning and after I only try to get some old Heinrichsen sets

I try to keep a copy of each picture of Heinrichsen sets; when the sale will be over I will see with Marko how we can put the pictures on line

About your "Hussards-Cossacks" set they are originally plundering french hussars, I think from B&S

Eric,
I too have been keeping the photos of many sets, no way I could save all, I do have a question that you might be able to answer?
Many of these "sets" are obvious because thay have accompanying boxes and some are said to various manufacterers together, but many of the "Themed" sets such as Borodino or Sedan 1870 or battle of Leipzig 1813, were these first sold as a grouped set? or are they composed and put together by previous buyer/seller?
Ray
Title: Re: OK Here's mine
Post by: errant49 on November 05, 2014, 04:25:41 PM
I am not sure of the answer, Ray
But Heinrichsen made thousands of figures and used to gather them in boxes to represent a scene or another; some boxes could have up to more than 100 figures
Sometime they made different boxes just by changing a few figures or a  group
Many of the Breitenstein sets are issued from these boxes but maybe not all of them

I mixed these for the melee with other unique formed castings, the Russians are not as good, proportionate or body wise but I like the painting and they seem to blend well stylistically

Thank you guys, I have an artist in St. Peteresburg that I made aquaintance with many years ago, he does all I can send and even though they are not as life like as the great work that you do Eric, I do enjoy the style.

Storage and display are always an issue for mt, I hate putting them in boxes and the slightest bump to a display case or shelf and you have mass casualties, but I finally found a source of display boxes with a clear acryllic cover. I mount foam board and glue felt sheet then cut the figure bases into the surface

Are these your own paintwork?

Hello Jeorg,
I don't know if you realize but this is a 1/72 scale cardboard kit from russia, that is why I set it in the background, it's just a touch small, but it is neatly impossible to find an onion dome church in 30mm, I see them very very reartly in flats, glad you liked it.

It is a copy of the chapel of the Archangel Michael at Kizhi. If you ever visit St Petersburg, it is worthwhile to take a boat trip on Lake Onega to Kizhi.

Been A while since I posted but I have been busy collecting. I have solved my problem with storage, I found a flat file (should have been obviuos long ago by the name!). It's a huge beast measuring 40" deep by 52" across, with each drawer being appoximately 2" deep. these are normally used frp blue print and art storage but it is an excellent storage for my collection. Unfortunately it is so large it will not fit in my small Man cave, still working on that.

Very nice, though it looks like you may need a second one of these soon.   ;)

I keep my unpainted in an 8 foot high pile of wire bins that slide out.  Some books toppled over which pushed over the pile of bins and tried to assassinate me several weeks ago so your way is safer as well...

As you guys probably remember I'm a collector wothout the talent of so many of the fine artists on the forum, I've actually bought items from many of you and these were puchases as well. I got both these sets on Ebay and I bought the Oak from Fernando Enterprises, They do some great work at a resonable price, but can be a little difficult to work with in my experience.
Veyr nice set Sandor!

Editor of the oaks is Reußner
http://www.zinnbaum.de/seiten/index.html   (click the little icons below)

He manufactures the (naked) trees and solders foliage on it.
Therefore no two trees are exactly the same.

The trees come in different sizes.

Thank you Sandor, Yes the cases are made by me. Always a dilema on how to nicely display flats, they are not very stable standing and the slightest bump of a shelf or cabinet sends the entire formation tumbling down!
These are inexpensive jewelers display cases, I cut foam board to back fill the case and use various color hobby felt panel over the foam, then simply cut the felt and foam to fit half the base in and Voila!

It's my pleasure Sandor, here is a link to the site, they come in various sizes, colors, depth, textures. covers etc.
A web search may find you a source more local to you to keep the costs down.
I would love to see some of your beautiful sets displayed in this style, it has worked well for me!

Hello,
the weapons belong to a set of figures which shows some of the big personalities  of tin figures, Ludwig Madlener, Sixtus Maier and Ludwig Frank.
Original they were edited by Retter but the moulds now belong to Mr. Dangelmaier.
