Normally I take myself some minutes before I start to paint, watching the figure and thinking about where to place lights and shadows. Doing the same as you have done by computer in my mind.
I´m working the whole day with technic and computers so I want to keep the painting hours free from that. But it is really a nice help.

In sepia or in grey scale, this is a perfect and easy manner to verify your lights and shadows on a flat colour painted !
Using the values instead of the tones to adjust the volume effect and orientation of your light(s);

You can do it with a software, or .... with your smartphone, adjusting the colours also!

Thank you.
@Hannibal: this is an interesting way to look on flat. Nice to see the figures in sepia.

It looks like a excellent three dimensional painting, givig nice lfe to the subject.

I've tried below
1) to ligthten a bit the picture (center)
2) to convert to sepia tones to remove the colours and focus on values (right)

Wonderful effect !!!  Congratulations ...

Hello,
here is a small group I bought in August at Kulmbach showing a peasant couple around 1500 original drawn by Dürer edited by Maier.
