Hi Michel,
I saw lighting in a box diorama at Kulmbach 2 years ago, so I cannot see a problem with it quite frankly.

I have never seen a rule where it prohibits them. As long as its in concept and the painting of the figures can be clearly seen.

Hello to all olds of this forum ...
I just noticed the Leds in a dio below ...
Can someone confirm whether in compétitions in Europe, the use of lightening to show a diorama with flats, for examples is
- prohibited
- permitted
- tolérated

I never saw specific requirements so far ecludeding their use, but the habits f judges maight be to disqualify, or request to turn lights off for judging pièces presented at that occasion.

Reason is I plan a diorama which sould require le use of Leds as the dio is deep, and in absence of light, le scenery will be dark and destroy the paintings made...
Thank you
Michel

The exhibition of Luther A. Mueller, Güntersberge prompted me about this on the lighting technology for small Diorama thinking.
I tested this also, unfortunately I did not find the right design for the success.
Since the structure of painting has emerged from the background a lot. The light from the top and formed a stiff optical light. :'(

Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that allows a new perspective.
Yes it is also possible to regulate the glow (dimmer), or Color-set.

Here is my attempt ...

LED stiffeners 5m self-adhesive, but shortened to 2x3 bulbs
Transformer plug 220-240V 50/60Hz SEC: 12V, 1A
Connecting cable with an adapter plug and switch
best regards

A certain aspect:  A collector friend some years ago advised us, that a figure's look will always be influenced with the lamp it is lighted during painting and exposition.
Means, if you paint with light from upper left angle (and set lights and shadow accordingly),
you should show your figure under lighting from upper left.
Otherwise you will never achieve the visual appearance, that you had in mind during painting.

You may be sceptical, but I tried it and it is true (not mentioned light bulbs, LED, tubes .... with differing "light temperature").
Just sort it out with two or three photographs of you figures, using different light directions.

So far for basic.

If we come to presentation it becomes a bit tricky:
Having painted all your figures with light from upper left you have to make sure, that your figure in a frame or a diorama gets it's light from upper left and only/focused from upper left.
Otherwise a big part of your painting efforts are in vain, nobody will ever see it.

I confess, by now I never used this knowledge in a diorama, but when photographing my figures I do.

But -of course this all has to be regarded under an different angle when using, say - a lens with round tube or a bat-shaped tube.

OK. I use to use good old 75 Watt bulbs in my Desk lamps. At the present time I have one with a magnifying glass in the middle with lights around the glass. It  burns almost a white light . With this light you have to remember to compensate when painting blues. As for dioramas I would use picture frame lights. You are dealing with space and heat.. Second study lighting in books on how to make a Dioramas. Willie

What experiences have you done with LED lighting with figures and graphs so far ?

There is no denying the future of lighting effects.
Your opinion and experience are required. :D
