It depends. For fur animal generally use oil. For skin I prefer acrylic. For tissues acrylic and inks.
For brilliant colors, it is very useful the Game Color of Vallejo, but never pure. I mix them with Model Color of Vallejo or Andrea pictures. Scale 75 have also nice colous. The MIR have alvo verey nice color, specially the earth tones, but have have others problems. To rise a color I prefer the Ice Yellow or a clear flesh tone If I have to use a white, a prefer a transparent white as the Acrylic Artis InK 60.001 of vallejo. I use many times  the inks of Liquitex for shadows and to perfile, but you have to use them with care and quickly. They are also usful to chage a general tone. Some times use a retarder of Amsterdam, and in this way the paint behaviour as  oil, but it is better use them in the last layers, because saturate the paint quickly. If you have a vibrant rot, use rot, orange, ice yellow, cover again with rot, and repeat the operation several times. The best bright greens are obtained by combinations, statin from the jade Green with Sun Yellow
For gold tones, I prefer the non metalic tecnich as the sets of  Scale 75. The Gold Paint set of Vallejo is very good, and chesnut ink is excellent includin to paint faces, but vith care.
For silver the non metalic set of Andrea is very goog, bau also the Payne´s Grey of MIR. MIR coulor are mor similar to to oil colors as the W&N.
For a black face, I use black, bue prussia, and calvary red 70.892. This last colour es very useful for all kind of skins. After I rise the colous with Yellow brown and Titamiun Yellow and last with orange brown with transpatent ink white.
For clear skins, I start Golden brown with rot and depending also Olive Grey or Cadmium Green OChre if you want a more meridional tone.
In resume, One not collect not only figures, one becomes also a collector of paints.
Finally when you many colours in you pallete, you use only that you have. Important, I allways use a wet pallete.
Experiment is also a good experience but some books also. I will speak about this in other post.
I never use magnifying glass. I paint that I can see with my own eyes. The problem is when you magnify the size with in a photo, but this I think this  is no the normal way in what you see the world
Sorry if my english is not very good.
