Not a lot of  progress since the Tulsa Show and nor working on any flats at the moment. Making some half-hearted progress on a Hassle-Free 32mm Artemis that I've converted to an Amazon Warrior. Beyond that ...snooze-ville.

I am working on many projects as usual. I need to have donation pieces for auctions and gifts so I decided to do an experiment where I do different color underpainting in acrylic and then finish with the same oil paint palette. Hopefully I can get this project going next week, not been home much lately so I have not painted since early May...

I am painting a round figure. I just fancied a change of direction for awhile. Normal service will be resumed as soon as it is out of my system.  ;D

At the moment I am in the country side celebrating midsummer, didn't bring any flats, brushes or paint with me.

But before the leave I began painting the unhorsed knight in the coat of arms of Mecklenburg, the set tournament in 1450.

hi, .....as i had a lot of work, i had enough time to think instead of painting. i have started with trooping the colour - just collecting still missing last part of it - irish, cold stream, grenadiers, welsh and 2 more horses  :)  ..... i guess it takes me a decade to paint it (i had to move indian mutiny dio to ice)

I only do some brush strokes every now and then at different single figures (30mm, the bigger ones lay beside)
and try to go forward with the grass for little a Mermaid (rather river-maid) diorama.
And that using green paint is a VERY long lasting affair. ;)

Hi guys. Will its about 104 here in South FL.  I have been watching Penny Meyer videos on painting flats and found my old gray scale from Kodak to us in painting . I have been working on a Elephant Gum team. I also read the book How to paint realist military figures by Lynn Kessler. Well Penny brought up a good statement. When she paints she study's the figure and then uses the gray scale for painting. These brings out hidden features witch is great. She mention the same thing I had stated that on flats both side don't match .  Good example the war elephant from the movie Alexander. Also when engravers make a model they use what research material is at hand, and sometimes that material is wrong. Now before every body throws up there hands in the air and the Flat Police come to my door. What I am saying there are a lot of great engravers out there and they do a bang up job on there models. What I do is I sit down with a small yellow pad and I look at the figure then I write down notes on what it is and what period of history it is.  I then check the figure out and you would be surprised by what you discover. Just to show you when I started on this gun team I discovered that the British artillery men had dress cartage box and strips on there paints. So you say so what.  Well you would not be wearing this on the North West Frontier ,the Natives would love it nice big fat target. Well better get back to my paint cave. I am also going to be giving a talk on transportation in the American Civil War on July 13 to the Civil War Round Table Society of FL.  Willie

Hey Brian, nice reading you ..
I am still painting, right now a knight of the order of the Gartner, but in silence, in my corner with my wife ...
It is still Under painting for one more week ...

I am preparing for some future competition where flats would be exposed separately, and hoping for fair evaluation. Therefore painting work is kept confidential, to be exposed anonymeous, no one 'a priori' on the painter, first condition of subjectivity to eliminate in a fair judgment, but not always fullfilled.

Actually, I am in a very hot foreign country (38°C+ = above 100°F for the overseas friends) outside, so painting in the basement is delicious !

After some 18 months off, I'm going full-bore on a flat that is a copy of a Rembrandt painting - "The Money Changer". Most challenging thing for me yet. Had some adjustment time getting back to painting after being away so long, but the hiatus may have done me some good as well.

I think we ebb and flow on our interests as we go thru life. You're probably in a place where you need to do other things for awhile. That's ok. It's about having fun. I'm sure you'll return when it feels right.

Enjoy the summer.

Me nothing, painted and round bust and the paints and brushes where put away!! that was 4-5 weeks ago and not had the urge to paint anything or talk about flats since )-:  just don't understand? it's the figures that kept me going! now no interest.
