Well I have two new books to talk about. The first is the Honved Army 1848-1849 By Gyozo Somogyi.  This covers the revolution of 1848 and it has lots and lots of color in the book. I know have 7 books in the series and will be getting the next 3 soon. The next on is a small book in German Reiter, Husaren und Grenadiere  Die Uniformen der Kaiserlichen Armee am Rhein 1754. A lot of the picture are from the time period and the detail on uniforms is not that good but still lots of information .  Willie

Well the Valley Forge show was great lots of flats. I bought two books while I was there. Justinian's Wars Belisarius Narses and The Reconquest of the West.  The book was printed in 1993 by Montvert Publishing. I have several of this series and they are based on Osprey type books good to use when painting flats.  Second is a Russian book Kiev Ruse AE Russia IX to XII. It covers the history after the acceptance of Christianity. The color work in it is great but a bet light other wise its a great book for knights and armor. So you have Turkmen Mongol Batiya, the civil wars in Sweden Germany to the time of prince Alexander Nevskiy . You will need someone to translate it for you. Willie

Well the book The Serbian Army in the Great war 1914-1918 arrived today By Dusan Babac . The book has over 500 photos covering the war. When I first saw this book I thought it might be interesting since I have the series on The British Army, The French Army Russian Army Turkish Army, The American Army and soon the Belgium . The section on uniforms could have used a bet more pictures of original uniforms in the museum at Belgrade Military Museum and the Serbian History Museum. Also more on the ranks insignia . You know the had thing about looking at new books on uniforms is you don't have large book shops like in London Where you can go and look at the thing first hand. Or there web page where they give you a peak into there books and you can judge for your self. Willie

For those who are painting World War I figures and are really hard core making sure that you paint the uniform right down to the buttons. I recommend the following books. Campaign 1914 Volume 1 and Campaign 1915 Volume 2 By Chris Pollendine. Military Mode Publishing  8) Uniforms & Equipment of the British Servicemen. :o This is going to be a outstanding series. Lots of color pictures of real equipment and uniforms. Another one to be TBA will be WW1 British Battle insignia :o They also have a series on the Imperial German Army. Now if this does not fit into your budget :-\  I recommend Osprey easy to use when painting and they cover a wide range of Armies of that war. Historie & Collections covers the French army 1914-1918 the Officers and Soldiers series.  Also these books are great and offer the painter lots of information.  8) In my next installment I will brake down the countries. Willie

Sorry Willie I somehow missed your last post.
Yes that is a very good book and has fortunately answered some questions I have about Hungarian Hussar trumpeters.
The Army of King Matthias 1458-1526 should be waiting for me when I get home.  ;D

Just a short note on the Indian Army Uniform Books.

                    1. The Armies of India By Major G.F. Mac Munn DSO and paintings by Major A.G. Lovett.  This is one of best out standing books on the subject printed in 1911.  I thought I was buying one from Amazon and when it came it was small and the prints where Black and White :(  I was lucky  :o many years earlier I had been able to get the post cards of Lovett's Uniforms from the National Army Museum and need a couple more to round out the series. At present I do not know if the still have them for sale at the Museum.

                    2. I almost forgot Books by Foundry Colonial Armies, Armies of the 19th Century

                        1. Rivals of the Raj 1497-1941 By Peter Abbott printed in 2010
                        2. The British in India 1825-1859 By John French printed in 2006
                        3. Armies of the 19th Century Asia India's North East Frontier BY Ian Heath printed in 1999

So the Raj is now going to pour himself a drink and go out on to his veranda and watch the setting sung  8) Willie

I thought that I might go threw my Library and start a new series on different army's . I have a set of Indian Army figures from I would say 1890-1900 and the Elephant Artillery set.  I was thinking that if any one else has these I would like to recommend some books to help you paint.  So here it goes.

                            1. Indian Army Uniforms Cavalry By W.Y. Carman printed in 1961 Out standing book lots and lots of information.
                            2. Indian Army Uniforms Infantry By W.Y. Carman printed in 1969 Both these books have lots of B/W and some color, but the information is out standing
                            3. An Assemblage of Indian Army Soldiers & Uniforms By Michael Glover printed in 1973 Lots of Color by Charter Paul Charter his work.
                            4. Military Uniforms of Britain & The Empire BY Major B .Money Barnes printed in 1960 lots of Empire troops.

So this is the first installment on this subject more will be coming.  Willie
