Yes nice painted groups!
Where did the idea of soldering figures together came from? I never seen such things here in Germany.
Is it possible to show such a group unpainted to see how it is done?
Christoph

Yes, I would strongly second the proposal of Christoph!
I would be also interested in a kind of technical guidline (blackline) how to make this flat-figure-soldering!

First - Eric often mentioned, this soldered figures.
Second - Learning, how to do it, may be of interest.
But what do you hope from soldering unpainted figures? You will never be able to paint them fully.
Or am I wrong?
To achieve this effect of having a group of narrow standing figures,
you have to cut off half of the base after painting and solder then or glue them.
Or am I wrong ?

I´m just intersted in how it is done.
I know that Eric has shown groups like this here before. But I haven´t seen any of this in real.

What I can only say is
This work allows to create some different figures starting with existing ones
Of course you cannot paint the hidden parts because they are stuck
The figure you obtain is not thicker than the original ones
The groups are composed by taking several pictures of it in different compositions before assembling
The technic consist in removing all the engraving of the parts which will be stuck
So it needs a good and precise idea of what you want and after, to go slowly step by step
The bases are cut where it need and then reshaped
All that is made on the unpainted figures
I am not sure to be clear enough but I hope it will help
I join some pictures of unpainted groups
The ones about a French infantry camp is the last, made with old Mignot figures
Anybody interested in ordering it can contact me (20€ + shipping)
My friend will also answer to those who would like to have a special group made

Thank you Eric,
I was thinking about how it was done for some time. This is a very special thing a a lot of work!

I love these - they do show the figures in a very different light when they are together like this. The horse groups really stand out!
I did something with Hannibal's elephants similar to this - stealing the idea from you Eric as you have shown a painted set of the same figures.

The complete set
Next step will be the making of the ground

Stunning work - if I started something this large it would be a decade or two to get it finished. (It also helps that Cortum's figures are wonderful engravings.)
Well done and cool project!
