Hi there,

I remember this in the competition, and I think it won a deserved Gold. Well done indeed.

I use Winsor and Newton water mixable oils. You can use them as a conventional acrylic, but they take a bit more time to dry, so you have time to blend and smooth just like conventional oil.
They also clean with water, so you don't need turps. On saying this, they can be mixed with conventional oils ( more in the colour range ) but then you will need spirit to clean them!!

I am pleased you enjoy painting flats, they are quite compulsive, and the range of subjects are vast.

I welcome you here, and should you need advice just ask, there are many here ready to help.

Be wary of the  cast shadow adviser though ( Eric ) he's a bit dodgy to say the least!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am new to flat figures, have painted one and am working on a second (I think its technically a demirond?) not quite flat anyway.

I have been painting for a while now and met a handful of you in Bath. Sorry I don't have any photo's of the Geisha to show just yet, but I have tried to attach pictures of the fairies that I took to Bath but the photos are fairly awful. Still spend most of my time painting round figures but am really enjoying the challenge of building the volumes up for myself and as an exercise in painting I think it is really benefiting my painting in general.

I currently paint with Acrylics but the guys in Bath have talked me into trying out Oils at some stage, just need to find a piece to work on as well as all the cleaning stuff I will need.

Is there a recommended brand of Oil paints or are they all much of a muchness or are some not really suitable for miniatures for whatever reason?
