Hello Ray
Yes I have four box's with the same marking that I bought in Hamleys store for one shilling & eleven pence, they had hundreds of box's covering all periods.
I don't think that they were popular as they did not stay on sale long.
It must have been late 50's early 60's trying to remember how old I was then, but it escapes me, I was still at school and it was a Saturday treat going shopping with my Father could have even been getting a present for my Birthday.
There was a special reason that they were marked made in West Germany may have been something to do with trade embargo or special prices as the English were trying to kick start the German economy after the war, I believe that one of the Bantock's were placed with Ochel as liaison officer and he may have been involved in bringing the figures to the UK.
If you have the Krannich books on Ochel there is a photo and reference to Bantock
Sorry can't bee more precise
