On my side, to be fair I never knew nor heard  such flats were existing from Mohr !

Surely some members from Germany or Europeans could tell more.  I would guess dispersion of the moulds over the decades contributes to have several of them disappearing, or kept in private collections or musea...
This business managed by more and more elderly people is more likely to shrink than expand nowadays compared to the XXth century; their profitability in our current world of profit and capitalism is hard to stimulate young entrepreneurs.

all right! You are right; those who have the molds, keep them as relics and do not think about producing new pieces. The lucky ones who already have the series, of course, do not give them up .... To make this world live again, one must have the courage to relaunch the productions and make a lot of publicity!   :-\ ;)

@merlino: Isn't this part of the Murten Gottstein series?
Ask the Leipzig collectors, I think they have adopted the Gottstein moulds. ;)

I wrote to half the world ... in the Swiss museums, in Leipzig, in Magdeburg. They don't even answer, or they have nothing. In Kulmbach I had spoken to the lords of Leipzig (for the Gottstein); they promised me many things, but then they didn't make themselves heard ............  ???

I think the Leipzigers are preparing a new edition. They're probably not finished yet.

this "world" must also overcome a bit of laziness. People get tired of waiting for months ..... We live in an era where you have to have everything immediately; you order on the web and receive it after three to four days. So you don't survive.   :-\

Nowadays we can continue to keep the original molds as relics or memory of flat history and of a way of working, at the same time the engravings can however be reproduced with more updated and current methods, making the qualities of the artistic work of great people like Mohr, Frank, etc available to the new generations. Engravers or interesting series must be reproduced if thin figure world would still survive. At the same time, the traditional method of flat producing by engraving on a stone slab can be kept alive, taught and learned.
I am not talking about incompatible things, but I am referring to the fact that museums or institutions that have acquired certain moulds and assetts to protect and preserve them, must imagine that these could also have a new form of diffusion, because it is their nature... to be painted and collected.

I would be somewhat softer, Merlino !

The world must stop requesting to have everything being executed IMMEDIATELY, shipped yesterday, and learn (again) to appreciate the life, nature, silence, to desire life and goods as much as consuming them immediately, and not consume them faster and faster, then threw them away!!

For me the Covid-19 has opened me some of these lost values, reading books, taking time to wait for season food instead of ordering at high speed from the other side of the world ... but I see that the world will probably run faster than three months ago, and burn our resources even faster too ...
During these 12 weeks, I've been watching many magnificent movies from the BBC over the animal world, I discovered that animals are most if the time more mature that human beings, less destructive and egocentric, and preserving their environment much better than ourselves. A nice lesson of humility and respect.

I don't think that the people of Leipzig can be accused of not making the Gottstein figures accessible. On the contrary, I consider them to be one of the most important collectors' associations that still preserve the spirit of the cultural-historical flat figures today.

It is an unbelievable expenditure of time to administer hundreds of forms and make them accessible to collectors. And these people sacrifice their free time for this.

In fact, the Leipzigers have now completed the Gottstein series of the "Hethieter 1385-1250 B.C.", which comprises 47 figures, so that collectors can obtain casts of these figures again this year.
As a collector, I am glad that there are still people who have made this effort.

Hi Hannibal,I do not accuse anyone ... I only say that today's young people do not wait, they would like everything immediately and if they do not get it, they change desires. I admire this "world" with the artisan flavor of a long time ago. But there is the risk of not passing on anything to the new generations and there is the risk that all the great work done in past decades will be lost forever.   ;)

The battle of Murten moulds are not in Leipzig
To my knowledge they were bought by the Swiss National Museum in Zurich
And unfortunately thet do not seem to intend to issue the figures again
The Zinnfigurenfreund in Leipzig owns the rest of the Gottstein Blum moulds and they are issuing them step by step, but as Stefan says it is a long and time eating process for non professional people
Patience is a collector virtue !

A brief history of the Gottstein/Blum moulds for the "Battle of Murten/Morat (1476)" can be found in BFFS Journal #128. The Journal's cover includes a scene from the Murten Panorama.

All of the moulds are in the collection of the Swiss National Museum in Zurich.

new generations must be given the opportunity to enjoy the precious works of 19th and 20th century engravers. only in this way will our beautiful "world" continue to live. Don't "seize" the molds ......    ;)

Hi Merlino,
Eric is right the molds are in possession of Swiss Historical museum in Zurich. Out of 205 figures engraved 1-3 were done by Frank, 4-45, 9 - by Mohr and the rest by S. Maier the elder.
As to Saxon collectors they  are doing a great job on molds restoration. Thanks to them most of Gottstein elephants are available as you could see visiting Kulmbach Bourse. And other series too. Expensive but available. You have to look through Ebay lots there's a lot of figures from old collectors on the market.
Best wishes.
