Hello Michel.

Thank you so much for your interest and information given about personality of Yavuz Sultan Selim Han.

About mustache, only painting would be not enough. Also may need some tiny puty addition due whole mustache is also carved.

I will keep in mind this case and will modify area in my next build.

Who was Yavuz Sultan Selim ??

Selim I (Ottoman Turkish: سليم اوّل, Modern Turkish: I.Selim or Yavuz Sultan Selim), nicknamed Yavuz (traditionally translated as "brave," but closer to "stern" or "implacable" in meaning) (1465/1466/1470 –  1520), was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1512 to 1520.

His reign is notable for the enormous expansion of the Empire, particularly his conquest between 1516 and 1517 of the entire Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt, which included all of Sham, Hejaz, Tihamah, and Egypt itself.
He was also granted the title of "Khâdim ül Haramain ish Sharifain" (Servant of the Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina) by the Sharif of Mecca in 1517. Through conquering and unification of Muslim lands, Selim became the defender of the Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina which strengthened the Ottoman claim to caliphate in the Muslim world.

Selim's expansion into the Middle East represented a sudden change in the expansion policy of the empire, which, before his reign, had mostly been within the Balkans (Southeast Europe) and Anatolia (Asia Minor).[2] On the eve of his death in 1520, the Ottoman Empire spanned almost 1 billion acres (about 4 million square kilometers), having tripled in size during Selim's reign.

One of his suns, Suleiman I , known as Suleiman the Magnificient, was the tenth and longest-reigning Great Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, from 1520 to his death in 1566. Under his administration, the Ottoman State ruled over 20 to 30 million people.

Very nice engraving and painting Serhan, very representative of the original painting

I have recentered the picture below.

As minor suggestion, I would paint the black mustache up to the left end under the noose, I am not sure whether ottomans nor turcs have a shaved space between the two mustaches under the nooze.

Hello Michael_43,

Actually I was, as you have offered but I have problem with photographing badly.

I also transfered to acrylics and still practicing them too.

May be needs more and more shadows than this one  but Turban normally looks like this.  In later shots, I could not adjust lights well for photo :

On this one I used gray tones.

I still trying to have more nicer painting with acrylics, needs much more patience specially in blending. I may go back to oils I did not decided yet..

Yes I will check the link,

Thank you for your comment and informations given.

Hello Serhan,

if you´re searching for historical correct Ottomans, look at www.zinnfiguren-olfhafer.de . This side is in English,
too. He accepts PayPal.

Mr. Oldhafer has searched several years in archives and museums of Turkey for correct designs.

Best regards

Michael

Hello Serhan,

it looks good but I would be more brave with lights and shadows.

Look for example on the white parts of the turban at the picture you used and on your figure.

For example I use Payne´s Grey, Indigo and Burned Umbra for white shadows.
I think the artist used a kind of Umbra.

Best regards

Michael

Hello,

Yavuz Sultan Selim Han was the father of Kanuni Sultan Suleyman ( known as Salomon The Magnificent ) of the Ottoman Empire.

There are many discussion about his appereance for his personality but this example in below, the most common belief for many years ;

I do not know common scale or sizes in Flat World yet, I used Super Sculpey clay about 9,5 cm height.

[size=78%]

Cooked in oven :

Prepared mould and cast some resin copies :

Cleaned, primed and painted afterwards :

I used Vallejo Acrylics for paint.

Please leave your constructive critiques and comments freely,

Cheers, Serhan.
