Title: Penultimate color Refernces

If you really want to know how to mix a color, consider buying Connie's CDs on "How I Paint."  The first one has some 500 color plates showing how to mix about any color you will ever use. I puchased these years ago and still use them when laying out my palette.

Another arrow for your quiver is the mixing guides available from any bookseller. I like Powell's books, but your can find others.

I usually mix my colors - or have a very good idea of the mix - before I begin painting. I use these as a guide to help me set up my mixes. For example, gold and bronze are hard for me - these give me some guidance as well as help me set up the highs and lows.

Yep, definitely recommended, I have both of those and refer to them for all my projects.

In my opinion the mixes in Powell's book are probably a bit complex for our requirements but can easily be adapted for flats.

Hm,

one thing is how to mix colurs - no doubt.
In this matter Conny's CD is really helpful.

Another thing is, how to add light and shadow to a figure.
For me, Conny's approach to the geometry of bodies was an inspiration, both, in a tutorial meeting and with his CD

No question- I am far away from reaching a satisfacting quality, but -my opinion- knowing Conny's approach does not do any harm in this matter.

  I have the first book by Powell Mixing Color Recipes. I use it a lot and plan to pick up the ones on Landscapes and Portraits. Willie
