This is there first books which I bought over 50 years ago :o Volume 1 pages 130-138 has information on uniforms of the time frame. The first two volumes where kids books ??? I have the Histoire & Collections book on the battle of  Rocroi 1643 . So that might help some ::) Willie

Hello Sandor,
also happy Weekend to you and very one else around here. I´m just back from the garden and it´s a nice sunny day, wonderful after the Long cold winter.
It´s a nice article by Mr. Böckchen but I´m not sure if I like to try it. I was never good at soldering when I had to do it at school years ago.

You are right, the real musketeers were that of Louis XIII. So I´m looking forward to see some more figures painted by you.

Hi Cristoph, happy weekend!!! ;D
IMHO the "real" French musketeers - at least for me they are the Dumas-charachterised ones - should have lived in the years of 1610-1630, since Richelieu died in 1643 and Luis XIII died one year later (if I recall the dates correctly...).
However the figures of Glorious Empire (Musketeers Escorte of Luis XIV) are also nice ones - as I can  assess it on the pictures - I think the major difference of the musketeers of "our times" is the form of their hat.
So having changed the heads for heads with wide rimmed hat with plum, I think they can be used excellently also in the times 1620-1630.
Maybe I make a try, having just read the fine article of our comrade böckchen:

There are a lot of nice candidates for the head among the Droste TYW series.
I have never done such operation so far - if I really accomplish it I shall report myself with the pictures on our Forum.
By the way I am also just waiting for the delivery of the Osprey booklet about the topic.
Best regards-
Sandor

Glad you like them, thanks very much.

Yes Sandor, you are right. Sadly there are only an officer, a drummer and one tropper.

By the way, Mr. Vullings edited a troop of musketeers but I think it´s more for the period of Louis XIV, see here:

https://www.gloriousempires.com/collections/16-2-louis-xiv-musketeers-escorte

I based my painting on a painting of an unknown artist showing Louis XIII and Richelieu at the surrender of Moutanban in 1629, escorted by the cardinal´s guard. So the period for this figures is around that. It the time of the last Hugenotte uprising and the siege of La Rochelle, shortly before France joined the thirty years war. See here:

I think I should get the Osprey book quickly, sounds interesting what marko has written.

I think I have found them: M137, M138 and M139 in the Fechner Zinnfiguren catalog.

Nice figures, and nice paintwork, Cristoph!
I am afraid, I ought to purchase them either! ;)
Do you know their Fechner catalog-numbers?

Great looking figures!

I just finished Ospreys French Musketeer which talks about Richelieus guard constantly getting into sword fights with the Kings guard whenever their paths crossed and the King or Richelieu quietly congratulating whichever side one.  (Boys will be boys...)

Hello,

after Sandor has shown us some of the king´s musketeers, here are the cardinal´s men.
Figures edited by Wünsch (now Fechner).
